I don't know if this has been discussed before but just curious.

Growing up playing pool the old timers always said "you gotta hit a lot balls to get good or you gotta hit million balls (HAMB)."

Obviously just an estimate but averaging my play over time.

The early years:
maybe 6 games of 8ball an hour if you win is 8 balls x 6 = 48 balls per hour.
48 x 4 hours x 5 days a week x 52 weeks a year x 8 years = 399,360.

college = 19,968
post grad work = 159.744
working stiff time = 224,640

grand total is 803,712


This is just an estimate and conservative one at that but I was wondering what other AZer's number is? I am sure there are some out there that are HTMB hit 2 million balls.

its actually only about 2 hours per week for the time in colleague.
I am actually VERY suprised it was not more. Stupid colleague got in the way my million.

I would be curious to know where I am at with this. I do know that I have practiced WAY more than I have played so I would have to figure out how many balls I hit on average during a practice session.

I don't have time to figure out the math with this right now.

Oh -- is it "Hit" a million balls or "make" a million balls?

I know Banks was just making a joke but I do think the naturally faster players have an advantage over the slower ones. When you consider the sheer number of balls that someone like Earl Strickland probably hit during his formative years to other more methodical players I think you will discover part of the reason why Earl was the better player of the two.

Dey make us do lotts a spellin wen I was in colleague. Me and my colleagues hatin' it.

Anyway, I figure I've hit around 80,000 balls in the three years I've played pool. At this rate I'll hit the million mark around my 95th birthday.

I've only been playing for 4 years since I first found pool at Virginia Tech...and I can guarantee I've hit over 500,000 (38 games of 9-ball per day). Easily, too. If you're practicing/playing rotation, it's easy to get there.
