9 Ball (the movie trailer)

I thought Poolhall Junkies was absolutely horrible and that was a significantly bigger budget movie with much higher priced actors (Christopher Walken). So i'm really interested to see what comes of this considering the apparent lack of fundage.
Thank goodness someone else hated that abortion of a movie.

My take: Who cares? It's got real pool players and real pool. I plan to order one after they're available. Think about the budget these filmmakers are working with. Of course it's not going to be top-notch acting because they're not casting REAL actors. Acting is HARD WORK. They're also not using the same equipment as big-budget companies.

Support people who support pool!

Marissa, small budget has nothing to do with crappy film making. Kevin Smith, Spike Lee, Robert Townsend and many others have put out amazing movies using credit cards to fund their flicks. This on the other hand, is just all sorts of awful. If you want to watch videos of pro players shooting pool watch archived footage, hell, go to YouTube and watch Will Fuentes' home movies. Anything is better than this.

this is such a porno movie....If my wife didn't know any better, she would've thought I was watching a porno on the computer just now.

Cheesy music? CHECK
Bad actors? CHECK
Porn? NO!

Cheesy Music? CHECK
Bad Actors? CHECK
Good Pool Players? CHECK
Hot Pool Players? CHECK
Pool Movie? CHECK!

If you remember Clerks, the acting blows. However it took off, and he was able to make movies with greater budgets, and hire real actors. This guy isn't using real actors.

I can't speak for the script because I haven't read it.

clerks was a masterpiece compared to this piece of crap. and the acting and dialogue were whole levels above that trailer. and exactly how is supporting this movie supporting pool but supporting pool hall junkies isn't? in fact how are you supporting pool by supporting any movie? you are giving your money to the film makers not players or rooms or cue makers. and even though the movie is full of players they will get only what they contracted with the film makers to get paid. i don't see anyone earning high residuals on this abortion. i'm sorry i am just not following you're logic here.

The pool players acting in this one have to get paid. Therefore supporting pool.

And Clerks is HILARIOUS despite the acting of most of the cast. Tidbit: For Jason Mewes' dance scene, everyone (cast and crew) had to leave and keep the camera rolling because he was too shy to do it with them there. Snoochie boochies :)

i gotcha there that the players will get paid, but that was my point - not paid that much. hell they might make more playing in a weekly tourney at amsterdam:thumbup: and jason is ten times funier in real life than he is on screen. a couple of friends of mine are from redhook and i got to meet him and hang out for while and i haven't laughed that hard ever.:rotflmao1:

I'm glad he's doing better now. And Kevin Smith rocks. Bonus points for killing J-Lo in the first ten minutes of Jersey Girl.

Under normal circumstances I'd praise whoever is producing this for their efforts and ambition....

....except this is no Indy film. According to the website, this is being produced at Universal Studios, which also indicates that it has a budget that exceeds typical Indy standards. It's technically a Hollywood production, which means that we should expect the quality that's been met by previous pool-related Hollywood productions, such as TCOM or PHJ.

Sadly the trailer has far more flaws than just bad acting and a *seemingly* low budget. The dialogue is AWFUL, the characters are cliche, the plot is weak, the editing style is elementary, and the music is as others described it...'something from a porno flick'.

I still can't get over this.

And Im sorry to sound so negative. Im just horribly disappointed.

i can't find anything about universal studios.

however, just because it is being produced AT U.S. does not mean it is being produced BY U.S.

this looks like an embarrassment to me. I'm all for artists and people doing what they are passionate about... but you also have to be self-aware!

If you are producing this and come up with that trailer and you look at the film you have and the horrible acting and low production quality... you certainly shouldn't be making the claims that are made on that site. It's outrageous. If you want to call it a modest indy film about 9-ball, fine... but don't tell us it's the next TCOM!

Jennifer Barretta would be much more suited doing some modeling and sticking to that... perhaps a good director could make it work.

The fault is not only the acting here, the editing is horrendous which makes the acting seem a lot worse. When you have those huge gaps in cuts it just doesn't flow... this thing is horrible.

Shooting at Universal does not mean that the movie isn't an indie. Universal rents their back lots to anyone who wants to shoot there, including competitors. If you go on the tour, you'll get to drive through the sets from Desperate Housewives (Disney/ABC) and Ghost Whisperer (CBS/Viacom). They have lots of all sizes, which make it ideal for anyone looking for a soundstage.

As for the script, the thing has been floating the industry for years. Anyone who wants to read it can find it here:

If you do decide to try and read this claptrap, just make sure you keep anything pointy out of reach, since you'll have a serious urge to gouge your eyes out.

some thoughts.

I hope jenn does get to wear some clothes that do her more justice.
looks cheasy.

ps I don't get why people dont like PHJ. PHJ gives this move the 6ball and the break !!

(bad+watch)+(bad+watch)=2bad2watch :groucho::eek:

But have to wait and see, you never know, Clerks was made for 23k and look at it now....

Famed director Robert Rodriguez made his first movie 'El Mariachi' (the movie that inspired the big budget sequel 'Desperado') for somewhere in the vicinty of $8,000. He charged the whole thing to his credit card.

The difference between movies like Clerks and El Mariachi and this movie is... they had real actors (ok. Well maybe not Clerks). They had real directors. They had production value. They had people telling a sotry that was compelling to them in some way.

This looks like some high school kid who likes to play pool took a camcorder and contrived some foolish story in an attemtp to make a movie about pool. I doubt this will ever even see a video store shelf.

I said support people who support pool. Poolhall Junkies does not support pool. It's Mars Callahan pretending to be a hustler.

Funny. Because Mars Callahan pretending to be a hustler was a LOT more captivating than the 30 second clip of an ACTUAL pro pretending to be an actor.

I watched the trailer. I won't comment about it directly, there are plenty of comments already.

I would like to point out though that some things can overcome budget. You can do a lot with talent, ingenuity, networking, determination, patience, and hard work. Talented people in all aspects of movie making whether it be professional or amateur is needed though.

If you are a lord of the rings fan at all, or want to see what actually can be accomplished with an extremely low budget, check this fan film out. The total budget was $6,000, and is about 30 minutes long. No person involved in the making of the film was paid, but talented people who were fans worked very hard to do a professional job.

The movie is best viewed with external speakers to insure a high volume level.
