9 Ball (the movie trailer)

Under normal circumstances I'd praise whoever is producing this for their efforts and ambition....

....except this is no Indy film. According to the website, this is being produced at Universal Studios, which also indicates that it has a budget that exceeds typical Indy standards. It's technically a Hollywood production, which means that we should expect the quality that's been met by previous pool-related Hollywood productions, such as TCOM or PHJ.

Sadly the trailer has far more flaws than just bad acting and a *seemingly* low budget. The dialogue is AWFUL, the characters are cliche, the plot is weak, the editing style is elementary, and the music is as others described it...'something from a porno flick'.

I still can't get over this.

And Im sorry to sound so negative. Im just horribly disappointed.

And a trailer is supose to be one of the best parts of a movie to suck you in to go see it. Johnnyt

I don't think this movie has a chance, that was the worst trailer I have ever seen!

I think a documentary would be much better, follow Alex P. around the U.S. and the Phillapines and see how he matches up. Interviews with pro players before or after the matches, etc... This would be worth watching if it was done right.

I suffered through Shooting Gallery, so I will buy this too. I will always support pool when I can.

With that cheesy music it looks like the start to a cheap porn movie.

Heck, if Ron Jeremy woulda walked into the scene I just mighta got interested.

This is exactly what Im planning for Volume 5 of the Mastering-Pool series. Volume 4 will be Expert level instructional...but if I can get enough funding, Volume 5 will be a behind the scenes look of life on the road with Mika.

Hey Girl ......haven't seen you on here for a while ....my friend Wendy has a restaurant in Brooklyn called Wendy's plate ....know it ....?
Yes I have. I'm always on here lurking. I haven't played in 4 years and don't have much to contribute.

Anywho, I too immediately thought of porn movie when I saw the trailer but my brain is like that of a dude so you can fault me.:wink2:

the trailer wasn't just SAD... it was Pathetic. I hope, "for the love of Pool & the World of Pool", this garbage is incinerated. The drama I've witnessed in this pathetic short-video, is about two B-level broads with social attitudes, that are smearing their worthless story on the cloth of a Pool Table.

That was my candy coated version.... I am disappointed

The Hustler and The Color of Money both had realy good and popular actors and TCOM had a great director. It will be interesting to see how the pro pool player cast compares. People in the pool world will likely love it but how will the larger public view it? That is the question that must be answered with positive affirmation, for it to have the desired effect that The Color of Money had.

Good point, although I think you're overlooking the fact that we ARE the pool community, and so far we all hate it. If we hate it....then I fear what the rest of the non-playing world will say.

I'd be surprised if this movie even makes it to DVD. People may have made the mistake of investing in the hype prior to production, but now that they can see where their money has gone, I seriously doubt anyone will give them the necessary funds to have it hit movie store shelves.

Using a cast of professional players in a movie so that the pool can be authentic is kind of missing the point of a movie. If you want to see incredible playing, that's what Accu-stats and TAR is for.

The Hustler was a great movie because the story was so well crafted and the actors made you care about their characters.

jennifer said,

something, scared get butt with ur friends, thought this is must be hardcore analporn movie its horrible hope director can improve this poolmovie would be nice but

Wooooooow. That was terrible. I will definately watch the movie but the acting... I am certainly not an actor but that was hard to watch. Do you smell that? It is a Rocky plot line. Loses in the first one. Wins in the second. Plays Mr. T in one pocket in the third. Becomes friends and then a Russian beats the friend so bad she gives up pool. Goes into training in a freezing climate. Beats the Russian. Then has to fight the chick she started training because she gets a big head.
My take: Who cares? It's got real pool players and real pool. I plan to order one after they're available. Think about the budget these filmmakers are working with. Of course it's not going to be top-notch acting because they're not casting REAL actors. Acting is HARD WORK. They're also not using the same equipment as big-budget companies.

Support people who support pool!

But have to wait and see, you never know, Clerks was made for 23k and look at it now....

Dude, I really hope that you're not comparing this to Clerks. Clerks was low budget and film school 101, but the reason it is so loved is the writing. The Clerks script features some amazing dialogue play and is still one of the best pieces of writing Kevin Smith has ever churned out. The script for this movie is just plain awful.
