9 ball the Movie

I don't know how anyone can see anything negative in this trailer. From what I see it's the standard formula - great talent goes from gritty hustling to playing the pros type of story.

It's the same rags to riches story that people love. They love to see the talented oppressed hero claw their way and let their skills show on the world stage to immense adulation.

I see that the APA is amply represented and so that may just well lead to a surge in people wanting to get out and play.

Why not look for the positives!!!

After all we did manage to ride a fairly long wave based on two good pool movies. Maybe JUST maybe this one will go viral and end up being a hit. Sure couldn't hurt if the POOL COMMUNITY would push it to their friends through their social networks. I am going to just because I want to see pool grow.

And based on the trailer I am fairly confident that this movie will be way better than Pool Hall Junkies, Chalk and what was that other one in New Orleans.....Shooter's Gallery or something...

9-ball the movie:

I will watch it,it is terrible I am sure,by movie standards but I will probably enjoy it anyway.

The hustler:

Seen it a dozen times. There is no wrong answer here but I would say its about hustling. There is a love story as part of the overall theme but it is definitely no love story.

I said it before, and I'll say it again. It hurts to pour your heart and soul into a project, spending years of your time and effort, as well as tens of thousands of dollars, only to read negative reviews.

I read somewhere that one unnamed broadway actress refuses to read the reviews of her performance, whether good or bad. She doesn't participate on social media sites or forums like this, either. Today, she's heralded as one of the best in the business.

I hope the movie people realize that this forum will provide the harshest criticism when it comes to pool. We see things that mainstream American viewers will not, and the movie will be received differently by those who are not in the pool culture, which can be a good thing. Pool is cruel to its own in America.

I'm going to take a permanent vacation from this forum for the same reason as the actress very soon. I'm not going to announce it when it happens. When I release my pool pride and joy, I will refrain from reading one word on any social media site or forum. I don't give a damn what anybody thinks as long as I'm satisfied with the end product and mainstream America, as well.

Jennifer Baretta is one of the nicest lady pros I've ever run across. The first time I met her was at Super Billiards Expo in Valley Forge in the early 2000s. She was at an exhibition booth, and though I did not know her, she knew who I was from this forum, believe it or not. She used to be listed in the "Ask the Pros" section on AzBilliards and was an active member. She walked right up to me, stuck her hand out, and said, "Hi. I'm Jennifer, and you're Jam." Here I was standing before a pool celebrity, and she made me feel like a million bucks by just coming over and talking to me.

I'm glad to see her get some media hype. She's one of the good guys -- or I should say "gals." Pool could use more of players just like her.

Here's the photo I took of her at the 2005 SBE. She graciously allowed me to snap her picture.

good for you Jam.

Its not the popular road for sure..but some times its the only road to..true bless with out the bs...

I know Jennifer, she's a nice person who shoots a pretty mean stick.

Is she a great female player? She's no Allison Fisher, and definitely no Jean Balukas (when she was at her prime).

Tri-State Tour site lists her as an A+...that's a notch below Open and two notches below Pro.

She is a pleasure to watch. Attractive and she plays smart, with very good cueball control.

If the movie would be about opera, Jennifer would be more of a Florence Foster Jenkins than a Veronique Gens.

Sorry Jennifer...I think the movie producer and director should be put in a room with a bunch of angry Hells Angels bikers wielding bar cues. You deserve better, check out how a low budget movie with a good story like Io, Chiara E Lo Scuro can become a popular movie.

... so many negatives of the trailer ... but in my opinion, and I am a poolplayer, I thought it looked interesting

Don't know much about the movie but they seemingly are pushing the APA directly or indirectly, which is a good thing. And seeing familiar faces and players at First Break Cafe (nice room outside of DC) is a bonus

Try not to be so critical people, give it a chance ...

I'm in ... on the positive side.

Thanks to all involved with the movie,

Billy

I watched Poolhall Junkies the other night. Anything may be an improvement over that crap.

I am certainly willing to give a pool movie a chance. If the 'shorts' that are here are any indication of what the acting will be like, I wouldn't complain too much.

I am willing to bet everyone here likely complained about the "technical" aspects of

The Hustler and the bank combo shot,
CoM - "I knew it was going to be the 5 ball"
PHJ - every 90 mph slam bank -
don't forget James Coburn in Baltimore Bullet, not so much pool but a good watch.

It's coming from a player perspective with players acting and not actors playing.

What works better for you? Lindsey Lohan playing against Tara Reid or 9mm vs The Black Widow?

If you don't like it, you can always go back to the video store and rent another Adam Sandler movie.

APA is listed as one of the official sponsors of the movie. So is Aramith, Delta-13, and Diamond, amongst others.

On a related note, I can't seem to find the link to order the DVD for the movie.

I think this movie has been greatly under promoted. It might get some people interested in the game but overall I don't think it will have the impact of other movies about pool. I do however want to see it.

Jimmy Reid they did it again

Jimmy you wanted an honest pool movie but I'm sorry to say "9 ball" looks like it will set the game back forever in America!

what........and why do I deserve your rude ass comment? JO

A victim of the shit you guys pulled in Dundalk, Md.

P.S. Thanks for the red rep, you asked the question, all I did was give an honest answer.

WTF is wrong with YOU? I wasn't in MD either.

I have no affiliation with the movie in any way.

I haven't seen the trailor. I clicked on a link that was supposed to take me to a site on which I would be able to buy the dvd, fully intending to buy the dvd. I found a long post that told me everything except how to buy the dvd. I have a short attention span for such things. I gave about a minute and gave up.
