Do you have to be a pro to play or can anyone play as long as the fee is paid ? If there are requirements what are they ? Thank you
 
How often do truly unqualfied players sign up just to say they played against a pro?




(a lot of hackers would pay money just to say they played at Wimbledon or The Masters, but of course you cant do that)

Every year. With a field of 256 players there is plenty of dead money. As far as entering though, I would guess more "hackers" (as you put it) enter to say they competed in the US Open rather than to play against a pro. The entry fee is around $600. There are many local and regional events during the year all around the country where you can pay a fraction of that and have a chance to go two and out to a pair of world class players. Usually all you have to do is get your money in before the field fills.
 
Mike...Happens every year at the DCC...but the entry is a lot less than the US Open. I think the word "unqualified" is a bit harsh. There is nothing wrong with wanting to match up against a MUCH better player...on purpose, even if you think you can't win. There are several good amateur players here who have done well against semi pro and pro players. Mojoe happened to win a match against Rodney Morris just recently.

euphemisms are the norm...Barry Berhman's use of the word 'OPEN'
is refreshing.....

..it means OPEN...bring your entry fee

The entry fee is $500 and you might be surprised. The great majority of these guys are good players, many are local champions and high level amateurs. Maybe 10% of the field is comprised of true amateur level players (20-25 guys). Not too many people will pay that kind of entry who don't think they have a chance to at least cash. Every year I see "no name" players give some good players fits! :smile:
 
since i've never been at the pool table shooting at the same time as someone else was shooting at the same table, the way i see it, i can beat anyone in the world, and nobody in the world can beat me.

i can only beat myself, because i only play against a table.
