Diamond Pro-Am delivery report
Configuration:
- NEW 9' Pro-Am
single-piece slate
pro-cut pockets
no decals grey/black
860HR tourney blue felt
- NEW 9' Diamond mini-light (26x102) black
- NEW (although, delivered in a dirty zipped bag, so hard to verify they were NEW vs. used) Tourney Duramith balls
QUESTION: do Duramith balls actually come in a zipper bag and that's it? Seems crazy...and hard to verify they are new.
- NEW Diamond ball washer
- NEW Diamond rack - black
- NEW Diamond cover - black/gold
Timeline:
- Deposit: Sept 16th - or was it Aug 16th - have to check.
- Delivery: February 16th, 2011
- Install: February 19th and 20th, 2011
- Wait time: 5 months!
- Time table was in transport: 1.5 months! (some scratching to the table as a result)...part trailer...part in truck.
Delivery:
- RKC dropped the table off and put it in my garage. The "black" Dymondwood was mostly grey....could/should post pictures.
- water content on the wood was 15-17%. I ran de-humidifiers for 2 days...
- Got the water content down to 10-12% before install day...Seems like this helped a lot.
- Table looks dirty. very dirty.
- Used a crane to get the table from the street to my deck - had to move the table down the street from my garage. Scary situation when Glen lost his shoe!
- Used a creative supply of random pieces of wood, truck jack, etc. to get the 1230lb table up 3 stairs. Weather cooperated.
Inside:
- the cart allows the table to be installed quite easily. Pull pins, attach legs, pivot onto floor.
- put screws in lower legs to hold levelers inward
- the 4 legs (bottom compartment) were there...few scratches. I picked up items to fix them 4 different ways...the Miniwax ebony-pen seems to be the best so far.
- Leg bolt area was a little scratched, needed some touch-up.
- Once the table is down, move it quickly...It becomes impossible to move later...My table is about 2" off on one dimension with respect to the light.
- Table was very very dirty. This was really the only "bad" thing to report. The felt had an enormous amount of dirt on it...maybe they can put plastic sticky stuff just on the felt - in a way that will not condensate...*note: my table was in transport for 1.5 months, in a trailer in the middle of snow storms, flooding, etc...Who knows what it was exposed to. probably a worst case scenario and perhaps not the norm for deliveries.
- Glen did the classy thing to help me clean-up the table...He polished the rails w/wax. Got him some new pads because I'm that anal.
- Glen used 'countertop magic' to clean some scratches on the side of the table..but i don't think they came out....have to look into ways to fix these marks from the table dolly.
- Vacuumed it extensively...got some new vacuum attachments.
- Wiped it down extensively...~50++ blue shop rags, filthy black/brown on each of them...
- The rails had decals on them, even though my order said that I didn't want them...so we removed them...
- Glen used a special Counter-top cleaner to clear up the black parts of the bottom of the table
Leveled the table
- today all points are within .005" and I re-calibrate daily. That's how crazy I am.
Straightened out the rails
Installed the lamp
- the lamp came in pieces...had to construct it
- lamp modules needed a bit of "construction"...center plates...edge contacts...that white metal is sharp.
- two lamp modules needed to be screwed into 1x4s (8 3/4" #10/12 wood screws)
- needed to wire the lamp. I used black 16/3, left a bunch of extra wire. Grounded both lamps (needed extra ground screw)
- Removed a ceiling fan and wired it in there
- Removed ceiling fan variable speed switch and installed normal switch
- I put in two eye-bolts -- into engineered I-beams.
- Used 6 S-hooks to connect the chains
- Got 4 "oil rubbed bronze" chains from a local light store...idiots gave us one chain with different length links...we created a 4th chain with the "extra" links.
- Light was installed 50" above table - Glen says it was optimal. Diamond claimed 48".
- I supplied (4) 5000k bulbs 800-series. Couldn't locate 6500k, but they seem good.
- Freaked me out walking on the table to access the light...Glen mentioned that they stack 4-5 tables on top of each other at Diamond, so I shouldn't worry. Now when Glen got up there, I was worried
- We attempted to clean the grates out a few days later to remove all the dirt/dust in them - not very successful.
Tweaked the ball washer
- tightened some allen set bits
- When it is new, the balls barely move...You have to hold down the top piece to make them spin...while dirt builds up and a groove is injected ot the carpet.
- Got all 3 of the recommended products
1. Brillanize http://www.brillianize.com/
2. Plexus http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/plexus.html
3. Meguiars clean & Wax http://www.meguiars.com/
- balls comes out so clean you can see reflections across the room on them - using #1 above for now.
Never got to play any pool - had to run off to other things...Barely made my appt!
Few days later
- floor moving a bit, but it's still very level...<.005" on all points.
- water content in table now just 6-8%. settling. rail bolts loosened a bit - tightened them to 15 ft lbs.
- re-leveled.
Positioning
Table is still 2" off center of the light in one direction and it drives me nuts...
- Have to find a jack that can help me to move the table efficiently...and, sigh, start re-leveling
- Anyone recommend a specific type of jack?
Glen
- Was a class act -- really enjoyed learning and watching him. Obviously knows what he is doing. I like his methods -- very precise methods.
- Has a lot of things in play - can't wait to see him become even more successful in his work.
- ...just don't feed him Chinese food.
Perhaps I'll post some pictures of my crappy room sometime.
The table plays very very well. I was surprised that the 4.5" pockets didn't seem to make much of a difference to me and I suck.
