9ball break shot question

I finally found some time to play today with my new break stick

I did not find success in parking the whitey in the center. It always come back to the kitchen if I hit at center or a tip below center.

Tried to correct this by adding a shade of follow, it went rushing towards the end rail.

Not sure if the shape of the tip is the problem, it came with a rather rounded tip.

This is definitely harder than i imagined

Great thread.

I break close to the center, concentrate on hitting the one ball dead center, and then jack up the cue slightly so that I'm hitting down on the cue.

The good news is that I'm getting a great spread on the balls and parking the cue dead center about 90% of the time. The bad news is that I only pocketing balls about 50-60 % of the time.

Since I play higher level players, this is not a great strategy for success. My opponents have a bad habit of running the wide open tables I leave.

Oh well, just need a little more practice on that snap...

nice, thanks for the advice. Breaking from the center sounds like a good place to start to learn how to stop the white ball. I did tried breaking softer from the middle just to get the feel of it, but it just won't kill....

lol, something is missing from the equation..

is this considered too rounded?

Where ever you break from, middle of the table or the side rail, you need to hit the one ball full as though you are hitting a straight shot. If you are hitting the one ball full (i.e. the CB is not going to the side rail after contact) then the issue is you are not hitting the CB where you think you are. A couple of things to try is to look at the CB when stroking rather than the one ball, and hit some breaks 1/2 speed or slowly enough that A) you make contact with the CB where you want to, and B) you make a good full hit on the one. Then build up your speed using center ball to just a tad above center.

BTW, you're tip looks fine.

Breaking

I have been playing for 50 years, and it varies all the time. Sometimes the table will make a difference.

now that we've explored ways to squat the ball....

how does svb get the one ball to travel down to the corner where he's breaking from =P

Not sure which break you are asking about. On a nine ball rack when breaking from the side rail the one ball tracks near the side pocket and one rails back towards the corner you are breaking from.

Just hit the one full and it will come out of the rack like this most times.
