9ball Run out

I'm not a high level run out player, but I can run a few racks here and there. I ran this rack just now and was impressed with myself. After I broke, I was thinking how tough it looked. I studied it for a few minutes and here's what I did.
1. I shot the 1,9,5 combo rather easily. The 1ball rolled out for a shot in the lower right corner.
2. Shot 1ball and drew the cue ball back for 2ball in the side.
3. Shot 3ball in lower left corner, drawing back for 4ball in lower right corner.
4. Shot 6ball side pocket, 7ball in lower left corner.
5. 8ball in lower right corner. 9ball upper right corner.

I think the key to this run out was getting proper position on the 2ball which allowed me to get pretty straight on the 3ball.

nice run! you're right, the position on the two ball was key because it doesnt seem like you had a lot of open pockets to put the three in. git'r done!

Great run out! That rack is a mess. Way to make something out of nothing.

Any time you run a rack you feel good. It is even better when you have a plan that deals with problem balls and you are successful. Nice runout.

Nice run out,

If this is right or wrong, I don't know, but It looks like the 1-9-5 combo is pretty much wired up. I would have rolled the 9-ball pocket speed to make the 5 and left the 9-ball hanging in the pocket for a 1-9 combo.

The 1-9 was lined up towards the rail quite a bit. I also intentionally hit left on 1ball to make sure it went towards the bottom right corner. The 9ball went off the rail, made the 5 and stayed fairly close to the pocket. I suppose you're right, but I had a plan and I stuck to it. :D

I don't think its a matter of right and wrong, it was just more of an observation I guess...

Any time you run out, you did it right...(thats the bottom line)

Besides...your way your opponenet has to sit in his chair and sweat longer...:)

the key to this rack is hitting the combo with shape on the one ball. most people don't think things out and just hit the combo leaving themselves terrible shape. seems you thought it out ( or got lucky, hopefully the former) and got good shape. if you get a decent shape that allows you to get shape on the 2 its all elementary from there.

nice run

Hal,
I like it a lot. All the straight pool players will appreciate your first shot. You should be able to predict the path of the 1 precisely, and put the cue ball in an appropriate place to get to the 2 from the 1. I like your style; we'll have to play some straights at DCC next year.

I've said this before but I thought my home table was tight until I played on those at the DCC. They were unbelievable.

Hal,
Most of the competitive straight pool I play with the local pro's is on tables just a little bit tighter and deeper than those DCC tables. So I will have to say they were not "unbelieveable"; but you COULD reasonably call them brutal.:) :)

Straight pool is a much tougher game on tight equipment than on loose equipment. All of the runs we discuss so often should always be qualified by type of equipment and by whether it was in competition or not (though some top players like Steve L. may disagree). I've run a 45 on loose equipment, but my 44 against a pro on tight equipment in a match was about a thousand times better an accomplishment. Now if I can just make it to 50 before I get too old to play.

P.S. - a hundred ball run is AWESOME even on a bucket table.
