Hello Keith,

I was browsing the "net" and stumbled upon onthecheese.com - I checked out their forum and lo and behold a topic about a certain guy by the name of Keith McCready. I copied and pasted the thread which was posted 2/5/05...kinda old but here it is:

I saw Keith McCready play on TV the other night. I was really surprised at his playing. There is a guy here in my home town(MS) that doesn't play anymore that I feel sure could beat him. I would love to stake Reed Pierce to play him some head sets. I sure wish he'd get back into the game. I might could get him to play if I stake him. Anyone else like to see this?

I sure as hell would like to see this.

I'd love to watch Earthquake beat up on your boy! JUST KIDDING! I'm not taking sides. But those are some pretty big words. Where do you play? I only ask because I'm from Jersey and I'd be curious to see this guy shoot sometime.

And they're right! Reed is a slow player. We've gambled before a few times. He is a good guy to gamble with, if you can beat him out of his money, but he's not a good guy to lose to, just because of the way he is.

There's not a lot of people who like Reed, but I do. We've even gambled on the golf course quite a bit before, too.

One time, I was spotting him the 8 and 9 on a bar table and on a big table. As you know, I had a bad game, but I did get lucky and beat him like that once.

I would play Reed some sets if he was to play fast, 10 ahead, on that shot clock. So you can take it for what it's worth. If it sounds like a challenge, it is a challenge.

Thanks for the reply Keith. I hope the original poster from onthecheese sees this cause I would love to see match.

If this ever takes place, please let me know, I'll be glad to travel a few miles to sweat it.

Hello Keith,

I am not the one who made the original post to stake Reed to play you.....BUT Since you responded to this AND posted a Challenge to play
Reed some 10 ahead sets with a shot clock, YOU have My attention!

First, what is the deal with the shot clock? You have never played Reed with
a shot clock before in any previous match-----WHY NOW?

Second, If you are Serious and this is a challenge--- I am willing to stake Reed to play you some 10 ahead sets at a neutral site without a shot clock (like in the previous matchups between you and Reed).

I am looking forward to your reply....Ronnie

I would have to believe Keith. Where did this guy get that Reed don't play anymore. When did he quit ? i see him every year at the Open. Is that the only tournament that he plays in cuz his entry is paid for by being a former champion. By the way, keith is right, i have watched him play several times cuz he is a friend of mines favorite player. And watching him play is like watching either grass grow or watching paint dry.....lol,,,,,,,,,,,,,,mike

Now I know ...

I have a friend that lived and ran the tables down in New Orleans for 7
years name Cliff "Junior" Brown, and he mentioned to me that Reed Pierce
was the only guy he lost to in those 7 years down there.

Junior road played around there and neighboring states when he was
down there. Chapter 19 of The Green Felt Jungle is about Junior.

But, if Reed is that slow, that kind of tells me why Junior might have lost, because it would have grated on his nerves over time.

i am from MS and yea Reed is very strong but from what i here he really does not play anymore. now i am not sure if he wants to play keith even if he is playing but thats just my opinion not tryin to call anyone out

Ronnie ! Are you a joker? You ask "why now?" - coz that's what he said!

Keith- Why no reply to challenge match?

Keith,

I was just curious as to why you never responded to the challenge that you made and I accepted on 5-15-05 to stake Reed Pierce to play you some 10-ahead sets at a neutral site. I just wanted to make sure you saw that your Challenge was accepted. I am still looking for your reply. Ronnie

Ronnie, the last time I played Reed Pierce, we put up 20,000. He ended up beating me. It took him a long time to beat me, but he did. I don't mind gambling with Reed if the timing is right. If my backer is there and his backer is there, fine, but I wouldn't play no cheaper than I did the last time.

As far as a neutral site, I would prefer a tighter table if we played. Reed does play a little bit too slow for me, but he does play good. I can't take that away from him. As far as a shot clock, we need to play with one. The last time we played, it took him 3 minutes to shoot one ball in. It really broke me down. So, for that kind of dough, I need a shot clock so that maybe I can get rolling when it's my turn at the table.

Keith, I am willing to stake Reed to play you for the $20,000 at a neutral site and with a shot clock. If you still want to play, Private Message me and I will be glad to give you Reed's and/or My Phone numbers to set up the details.
