I was at the derby from Thursday thru Sunday playing in the banks. A great time as usual wanted to share some both positive and negative observations, feel free to add yours or agree or disagree with mine.

-Its obvious the Horseshoe is in bankruptcy as I the over all condition of the place has dwindled from torn carpet to leaking roofs to lower staff numbers.

-Diamond is doing much better with their shirt/hat collection by adding newer colors and designs etc.

-The action room is way to small and is becoming almost impossible to enjoy and very uncomfortable.

-John Barton is selling a ton of rugged cases as about every third person (including myself) owns one.

-The food at the new bar (the old Legends) is pricy but much better.

-The tournament room tables play drastically different. There was always some differences but this year the cloth conditions etc varied tremendously.

-I don't like that the bank ring game was moved to the last Friday during the 9 ball.

if others have opinions please share...

I've been here since Friday and I'd agree with most of those. The new bar is a bbq place and I thought it was really good. I didn't think the prices were bad at all.

It does stink that they moved the bank ring game, but the reason is because the Bigfoot table is in the arena which is a net positive.

Also it is insane how many rugged cases you see down here. There's a reason why. Best case I've ever owned.

Every Time I stopped by the action room to check it out the line out of the door was three or four deep! I never did even get a peek inside.

I agree. I got to the point I would just go to my room and watch the big truck action room on my laptop. that was much better than in the crazy rude croud

I was there from Thursday night until Saturday night, played in the banks, ate some OK food, (the bar/bbq spot was good), had a great time.

The Derby is a gem. Like being at Augusta during Masters week. It's our Masters; and just as cool. As a pool player you can just walk around and at any given time have 10 things that are incredible to be doing/watching.

It's possible that one day in our lifetimes the Derby will catch on with a group much larger than just us AZB lurkers and this kind of Total Access might be a thing of the past and labled the good old days.

Head there if you can. You'll love it.

That's when it has been played since the Tunica event in 2013 (and then at DCC in 2014 and 2015).

Last year it ran from about 9pm to 1am.

I wonder if the casino would be in better shape if it were right in downtown Louisville, like next door to probably the most expensive hotel in Louisville, that is right on the river. I imagine they would get 10 times the business at least, but I do not know. Then they could afford new carpeting.

Casinos are illegal in Kentucky. The Horseshoe exists because of Indiana law allowing it on riverboats. Its why the casino is on the Indiana side of the river.

Wouldn't want to let people gamble on something other than horse-racing, now would we?

Justin,

Don't think it has anything to do with the location. All the Horseshoe Casino's around the country are in the same shape. Caesars Entertainments bankruptcy has thrown the entire organization into survival mode.

Okay, I did not know that . I still think they could have chosen a better location for it. They put it out in the middle of nowhere. They could have put it in Jeffersonville, right next to the end of the walking bridge. Some people do not have cars, or do not drive, and just ride public transportation (like me, lol). The casino in Evansville Indiana is right downtown . I wonder where the DCC used to be held in Louisville, and why they decided to move its location? Thanks.

It used to be at the executive west in Louisville which were by far the best days of the derby imo. I believe the ex west was bought out and the derby needed a bigger location the west certainly couldn't have handled this years crowd

AZB room

I looked around and could not find the AZB room. In fact, on the sign upstairs, the AZB had been crossed out
