A Funny Story with Jay Helfert

Several years back, at a Hard Times 9 Ball Tournament, Baby Ray from Santa Monica showed up a night or two before the tournament wearing a pair of those loud baggy pants the weightlifters started wearing in those days that later became very popular. I told Ray I wished I had a pair of pants like that in front of Jay (Being a smart ass at the time). "Would you wear them" asked Jay? "Of course I would" was my reply, then forgot all about it. The day of the tournament Jay shows up with a bag from Gold's Gym. I couldn't wear the shirt, it was too small, but for the rest of the tournament I wore these baggy white pants with bright pink & lime green designs on them with "IRON WARRIOR" printed under the designs. You could see the people at the tournament looking at me like I was some kind of nut case (which could be true), and I actually had a good time with it. I don't think "The Iron Warrior" cashed in the tournament. John Henderson

That is a funny story. I guess you really have to be careful what you wish for. :)

Good memory John. At the time, I lived about a block away from Gold's Gym in Venice Beach. I remember feeling a little awkward walking in there and seeing all these behemoths. I mean even the "girls" were huge. But the guy at the counter was real nice and helped me pick out the perfect pair of pants for you. I told him my friend was a muscle builder from Northern Cal., and visiting me this week. You never looked better.

John,

Will you wear them again in Sacramento? I will make the trip just to see this. The Barber

at least you could look bad just for fun, my local valley league had team shirts made up... tye dye with a hideous giant bowling alley logo and funny script on the sleeves. I've been using it when I have allergy attacks.

Is anyone else on this forum incredibly insulted by jrhendy's name? Clearly, this is a case where the moderators should allow a name change if there ever was one. Maybe you could come up with something less offensive...I've got it. THEIRONWARRIOR. Mr Wilson, get on this.;-)

Anyways, great story, thanks for sharing!
