Friends, here is a great find from a buddy of mine, Mr. Bal Verbo, who got it from Amang's FB account! And I kid you not!

From left: Danny Tamayo (Games and Amusement Board);
Efren Bata Reyes aka The Magician;
Rodolfo Luat aka Boy Samson,
Jorge Dacer aka Totoy Dacer,
Luis Tabuena (Chairman, Games and Amusements Board);
Jose Parica aka Amang,
Manuel Flores,
and Mart Cepeda, Treasurer of the Philippine Pocket Billiards Association

Hope you like it! :)

*I am guessing that Jorge Dacer and Totoy Dacer are one and the same person.

Totoy Dacer - I have heard his name before - one of the greats in Philippine billiards.
I remember purchasing a book on billiards from a popular pool hall in Aurora Blvd., Cubao, QC, when I was in high school.
It was authored by Totoy Dacer.

Jose Parica looks so young and innocent ...like a choir boy.
...little did the world know that this kid would strike terror into the hearts of many pool
players.....:eek::eek::eek:

I think that Totoy Dacer was the best player back then. Not sure if he is the one who met an unfortunate demise.

What a wonderful picture. Anyone have more info on when it was taken? Love to know the ages of this group of players at that time. Thanks for the pic, outstanding!

No the same. That was Boy Bicol.
In 2006, I saw Lining and Dacer play on tv. It was the semis of a San Miguel tournament. Lining ran over Dacer . Dacer was clearly way past his prime. He even missed an easy 9-ball and you could see from his facial expression his head was spinning.
Lining and Gabica played the finals. I met Gabica the year later.

As you know, pool is a serious sport in the islands.
The man in the center, Luis Tabuena, was the chairman of the Games and Amusement Board then . He was one of the sports commish there during the Thrilla in Manila days.

To add:

Manuel Flores and Boy Bicol are one and the same person.
(He is also in the pic).

Here is a snippet of an interview (Efren Reyes Answers Questions) from One Pocket.Org:

Q: Who was the legendary Boy Bicol?
How much spot did he give him back in the day when he was a teenager?

A: Manuel Flores. He’s like Rodolfo Luat and Keith McCready.
They have the same attitude. They’re very funny. We play even.
But the last time we played it was 50-70 rotation

The link to that interview is here, friends:

I was able to track down the pic to the Pacland site
where it was posted by The Observer.

The Picture was taken from the 1978 RP-Japan Pocket Billiards Friendship Tournament
held at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum, June 3-4, 1978.

The Philippine team was composed of Jose "Amang" Parica,
Efren "Bata" Reyes, Rodolfo "Boy Samson" Luat,
Jorge "Totoy" Dacer and Manuel Flores.
