When watching this video, it becomes apparent that Danny is saving a triangle of balls in the middle of the table that he just feels will work. When the rack is still mostly on the table, it's not necessary to have an exact end pattern in mind. But a solid training in the game can guide you - even subconsciously - to taking off the balls that just won't help you later in the frame.

At about 1:45 into the video, he sees the end pattern, and with 9 balls left on the table, executes it flawlessly. Look at what he does when he plays the 6 down the table and moves the 11 into key ball position.

Here is just a glimpse of Danny's stellar play, to which SJM was referring in another post. More to come.

(Btw, folklore states that you too can run balls like this if you are willing to wear that ridiculous hat - but no one has yet deemed it worth it.)

Anybody know where I can get one of those hats?

I think that there's a little Italian guy in East Newark that sells them on a street corner. Happy hunting.

I'm going to see if I can try Danny's hat out first. Wouldn't want to commit to buying a hat outright if there's no pool table around with the economy the way it is.

Nice pattern. It looked like there were three balls he could have chosen for his keyball to keyball. I guess the other two were easier to clear out first.

That ball on the rail just under the side pocket looked like it would be tough to clear out. He looked like he was hoping to bump it near the side when he got on the other ball on that rail. He went three rails and got on it pretty darn good, Seeing he needed to control the cue ball on the next couple of shots to get on the last three.

Very nice control.
