So I made a thread a week or two ago called "Frustrated at pool" and Mr. Albrecht responded and offered his help to try and explain the importance of eye dominance. So I had some time to do a solo practice session today and took him up on his offer.
On my way to the pool hall I gave him a call and it went to voicemail and I explained to him who I was. Almost immediately he called me back and said he'll help me, so I told him I'll call back when I'm next to a table.
The next half an hour was a real eye opener for me. I knew I was right eye dominant already because my optometrist told me when I went for contacts, but I never knew how to use it to my advantage when playing pool. He showed me how to properly aim while I'm standing up using my dominant eye instead of going down on the show and trying to use it. It made me stand in the line of the shot the proper way and not have to compensate or confuse my brain when I'm already down trying to use both of my eyes equally.
I practiced this for about 3 and a half hours and I immediately felt an improvement in cutting balls to the left. These are my worst shots because I'm a left handed player and right eye dominant, so every time I have a cut to the left, my mind subconsciously tries to use my left eye to aim, which is not the proper way. So now on a shot that I cut to the left, while standing up I move my head a little to the left so I can fully utilize my right eye, and go down into my stance with my head in the same position. It felt so natural and correct, I guess this is why they call it "Perfect aim".
This 30 minute phone call was more than I expected it to be and Gene is a really nice guy from what I can tell. I even started one stroking the balls in by aiming correctly just to see how accurate it was, I couldn't believe such a simple thing could change my game. Obviously I need more than 3 hours of practice with it to fully know how it can elevate my game, but from this short experience it was amazing. Thank you to Mr. Albrecht for being kind enough to show me this on the phone and I plan on supporting him by buying his dvd. We need more guys like this in the pool world.
