on St. Patricks Day, March 17th 2007. the lord took canadian pool legend Johnny Bear. You will be missed by many... rest peacefully my friend.
This is a very sad day for me. John Bear was a true gentleman to me. I remember when I was brand new in this game, he took 2 minutes out of his life and showed me the proper way to stand and address the cue ball. I still use what he taught me to this day. He was such a wizard on the snooker table and I was just mesmerized watching him. I will never have anything but the greatest respect for him and I will miss him. My condolences to Jim and the rest of his family.rackmsuckr said:Very sorry to hear that. Adanac and I were discussing John Bear on that very day! No one had a smoother, prettier stroke. And I will always remember him as a gentleman. May he rest in peace.
That's great! Were you giving the guy a spot to begin with? I wish I had that gift, to be able to clock people that exactly.CoffeFreek said:At 16 I thought I knew what I was doing...I was wrong. John Bear offered to "give me lessons" a 40 Points Spot for $10.00/game (Snooker, 1981). He killed me...but I learnt a great deal.
Twenty years later I'm up in small town on business and get into a match for medium cash. John unseen to me... walks up next to me and "informs" me that the next set I will be spotting the kid the 8 and last two. This way he has a one in five chance and you will have to play good to beat him. Slides back to his solitaire game and never looks up at me the rest of the night.
The smoothest stroke you'll ever see and a great "head" for the game. Today I shook his brothers hand and wished him my condolences. John was one of the good ones.

For those interested, John Bear in action. This was the first I had seen of him as he was a little before my time, but I have heard alot of stories.
There are 7 parts to the match.
