A New Hall Of Fame

Hall of Fame

My suggestion .. Improve the existing one.

Is there a building ? like in Baseball - Football or Basketball

The current Hall of Fame also has some World Players.. BCA Hall of Fame.

Billiards is alot like Boxing... Where ever you can make a buck.

If you do go for a New Hall of Fame. I wish you luck and maybe some good could come of it. It just may start some standards.
This is what pool is missing.

I mean pool records are rarely kept there is no one database for this stuff.

Most USA players never travel outside the US... As well as the same goes for the Asian Players.

So it is tough to judge.

Just some thoughts.

My votes are listed below:

Let me preface my remarks by stating that I know and respect cuemakers as devoted, capable craftsmen who strive for excellence. Like other equipment makers, they take pride in their work and are part of their sport's foundation.

Not that I've said that, though, why would cuemakers be in the Hall of Fame? Are the equipment makers in any other sport in that sport's hall of fame?

Maybe I just need a little education on this, and advance thanks to anyone who provides it.

Things change. Why not? Cuemakers have made a big differance in our game, as well as service people, stake-horses, ect..Just include those who have helped our sport.

Speaking of change,

I have had many friends call and e-mail me, that I have much respect for, say that I should have a Deceassed Hall of Famers. I now agree.

We now have a section for these fine folks of yester year, called.

" Memorial, Hall of Fame "

Thanks to my friends for opening my eyes to and for these fine folk.

To Joey, and Jon, Sam, and many thanks for re-posting our rules, that many pay no attention too.

Once again, please submit names and cateorgies only.

Funny thing about doing something of this magnatude for our sport., others jump in for there, .02cents worth, and didn't have the forethought to do this or something else on there own. But now there experts over night.

Guys, I'm at this time, spending my own money, for this. It's not going to be cheap by an means. I will do my best to have this historical afair, [tied in with Grady's event, in DEC.], one to be remember..and continue for years to come.

I estimate this will cost around, $5,000.00 with plaques, rental of events rooms and all that goes with it.

DONATIONS,for the Hall of Fame...

If any of you would like to donate, you will receive a certificate stating you are a part of this history in billiards.

Mail checks to
Leonard Bludworth, Hall of Fame
PO BOX 809,
Leakey, Texas, 78873.

All donors will be listed here on AZ.

Each [ HOF] recipient shall receive a nice plaque. There names will be placed on a larger one that will be displayed at various events during the year.

Joey,
It's a hopeless request. You might as well ask: birds not to fly, fish not to swim, Earthquake not to drink beer, Efren to give up pool for stand-up comedy, Jeanette Lee to wear pink instead of black, terrorists to take up scientology (and get rid of that whole "death to infidels" rant), Earl Strickland to keep quiet and mind his manners, Allison Fisher to miss occasionally, Blud to start making crappy cues, Ewa Laurence to quit using make-up. If most of us had any life, we wouldn't be here nit-picking every idea ever posted.

CATEGORIES!

1.- PLAYERS
Earl Strickland, Ronnie Allen, Mike Sigel, Keith McCready, Nick Varner

2.- CUEMAKERS
Tim Scruggs, Paul Mottey, Ernie Guttierez, Bill Schick, Bill Stroud, Bert Schrager

3.- SERVICE AWARDS!
Barry Behrman, Dick Abbott (www.billiardcue.com)

4.-POOL-ROOM-OWNERS
Bob and Eydie Romano

5.- SPORTS PERSON OF THE YEAR
Tony Robles

Players: Allison Fisher (hey, can't we nominate women?) and Earl Strickland (I agree with previous posters, gotta have Earl). Sorry about the speeches! :)

Cuemakers: Perry Weston

Service Award: Mike Panozzo, Billiards Digest

Thanks!

PLAYERS: Ronnie Allen, Grady Mathews, Bugs and even though this breaks Blud's rule, (living player) Jersey Red.

the damn quoting of previous posts is what is clogging up the thread much more than the unwanted opinions.

just my unwanted opinion.

Good luck with this Blud!
It needs some kind of organizational backing though.
Maybe your cuemaker org. can be the body of it and
nominate a hundred or more people around in the industry
to vote. Intial inductees should be a big group to kick it off and
then so many a year.
again good luck

heres mine everyones going to name the obvious so I might
go a little off the wall.

1.- PLAYERS,
Ronnie Allen, Jr Goff, Eddie Taylor Jean Balukas
2.- CUEMAKERS, Ernie G. Bob Meucci
3.- SERVICE AWARDS! Allen Hopkins Harry Platis Grady Mathews

Not quite sure what your looking for in the Memorial category
My players might need to be in this category or is this for nominees
that have past away.

Frank has a good point, Blud, when he nominates Jr. Goff. There are many top money players that the young-uns have never heard of. So, I would also like to nominate,

Players: Greg (Freight Train) Stevens
Cue Maker: Gus Szamboti

Hall of Fame Memorial List

I would like to make a recommendation for the Memorial List:

Rudolph Wanderone, Jr. - gotta love 'im

First, I think every player already in the BCA Hall of Fame should automatically qualify. Other players I’d nominate for inclusion are Earl Strickland, Johnny Archer, Francisco Bustamante, Ralf Souquet, UJ Puckett, Ron Allen, John Ervolino, Rags Fitzpatrick, Grady Matthews, Jim Fusco, Fong Pang Chao, Allen Hopkins, Allison Fisher, Karen Corr, and Jeanette Lee.

Would also like to suggest that the new hall of fame honor the best wheelchair players.

SJM,
I know I am showing my ignorance, and I know I am violating Blud's request; but, Rags Fitzpatrick - WHO, WHAT, WHY, WHERE, WHEN, HOW???? (how did I ever escape hearing about him, I've read every book I've ever seen about pool - but I don't read the magazines?).

Willie, Rags was his nickname, but his real first name was John Fitzpatrick. He was a road player and a one-pocket specialist and is often counted among the very best one-pocket players ever.

Johnny Ervolino once told me that he considered Rags Fitzpatrick the best one-pocket player ever not named Eddie Taylor, and indicated he rated Rags just a little higher than Ronnie Allen. Eddie Taylor was once quoted as saying Fitzpatrick was the best one-pocket player of Eddie's own era.

I'm a little too young to have seen Fitzpatrick play, but to have garnered this kind of praise from such great players, he must have been something special.

All i am going to say Blud, is this (and this is no knock), that if Earl isn't in it, it's no hall of fame...

Thanks,

Jon

Careful Jon, you're showing your age.

Later, Pel :D
