Well tonight I embark on the next step of my straight pool journey. I will be playing in the ever impressive masters division of the Amsterdam Straight Pool League.

The reason why i am playing in this league I remind everyone is because there were no openings I am told in the regular league and I have thought to myself that I am getting a rare chance to watch incredibly strong players like Steve Lipsky Danny Barouty Mika Immonen Zion Zvi etc play the game I love and this can only help me learn.

I have no problem being their rack ***** for a while lol.

I look very forward to it and will let you guys know how i do.

Good luck and enjoy. I'm curious, how difficult is driving in NY and navigating a car to Amsterdam Billiards? Once there, is there parking? I've heard it's impossible to drive around the city and park, is that true?

I wish you all the best Charles, just pay attention and try to duplicate what the Masters do !!!

You are given a rare chance at playing with so many masters under one roof on a weekly basis. i hope alot rubs off on you !

hopefully soon enough i will be taking that commute with you !

Good Luck Charlie, you will learn a lot. I was Dick Lane's, Leroy Kinman &
Bob Vanover's "rack boy" many, many times but I learned by watching.
Just play smart. Do what you know you can do and then play Safe.
Try not to leave the table on a miss.
Once again, good luck.
Mike

PS; I am also curious about the location of Amsterdam & the parking situation.

sounds like fun. like straightman suggested; play some good safeties rather than take chances and you might win the rack back. if you string together several 30 ball runs, with good safety pay you might put them in the loser category. i never play anyone without the mindset that i can win.

Charlie, good luck in the league.

Compared to other nearby Manhattan poolhalls, Amsterdam is blessed with ample parking.

Weekdays after 6PM, quite a number of free spaces open up. In addition metered parking expires at 7PM, so you simply find a spot, and feed the meter until 7 and you have the spot for the rest of the night. Parking on the weekends is easy, if you arrive before 11 AM.

Worst comes to worst, the nearby garages and parking lots will happily accept your car.

FWIW, I've been a Manhattan car owner for 25 years.

Good luck and enjoy. I'm curious, how difficult is driving in NY and navigating a car to Amsterdam Billiards? Once there, is there parking? I've heard it's impossible to drive around the city and park, is that true?

Good luck in your endavours Charlie. Enjoy the experience of racking. But enjoy the moments when you have Mika and everyone else racking for you!

If my last statement actually happens...take a picture, you never know when it might happen again.
