Dekapenteball, designed to blow Triball out of the water! Use it to play anywhere from 1 to 15 players, and it conveniently fits in existing racks on the market. All balls are individually numbered and colored. Subscription-based user licenses are required to play Dekapente ball, with violations including fines not exceeding $1500 and no more than 10 hours community service. Available on Etsy.

Weren't they supposed to done with the crowdsourcing by now and shipping the balls in June? The televised league matches were just around the corner.
 
well jack did say that it’s all happening ‘soon’

which is the same time table that the bible gives us for the return of christ, so i think waiting just a little bit longer isn’t asking all that much
 
2 months and we still haven't even been told the "problem" that it will allegedly solve.

50/50 that this was nothing more than some kid doing a quick year end project for his sophomore marketing class...

They were promoting Triball and Triball already existed and it claimed to solve the "problem" of what happens if you have three people around a pool table.

not exactly-

as i understand things, jack claimed his new pool game solved an inherent ‘problem’ that we all experience

and the other, previously named ‘triball’ pool based out of australia markets a 20 or 21 ball set designed for three players

i fear we are rapidly approaching ‘moot point’ territory
 
What's so bizarre though is that this was called Triball, so obviously it has something to do with 3s. The other Triball also framed their raison d'etre to a "problem" that we've all experienced, having three players for a two player game.

The same issue kept occuring again and again growing up. I would go out with my 2 best mates to play pool and guess what? Yeah, the waiting game once again for someone, normally me.

So another guy comes along and uses the same name as an existing product, with the same rhetoric about solving a problem we've all had. It would seem "TRI" is absolutely essential to this game, otherwise why on earth would you use the same name as something that's already out there? This doesn't scream "Marketing Genius" to me.

That along with the grandiose claims of having so many people bought in already, televised leagues and all this. Was this a scam or somebody with mental issues? Internet prank?
 
I honestly don’t think there was anything disreputable or suspicious about Jack’s business plan, Moe.

I just saw it as an ambitious (albeit perhaps a bit naive) project from a young, enthusiastic entrepreneur. I was rooting for him to succeed… so many similar ventures have failed in recent years.
 
So do you really believe he had room owners already signed up? That there were international leagues being set up along with televised coverage? It seemed odd to me that he had so much supposed support and yet was still trying to pressure you into "pre-buying" one freaking set of balls. Sorry, set up a "reservation funnel". They said they'd been working on this for three years, doing demos, talking to distributors and room owners. Has anybody ever actually heard of this from any of those people?
If there are delays, why wouldn't they issue an update? They had no problem putting the forum on blast before they could even tell us anything about it. Why go silent now? Now would be the time to speak up.
Has a weird air of delusion about it.

Well, you can imagine all sorts of issues that might have come up. One is that he was looking at increased tariffs to some locations. His cat had puppies. If something like that delayed things, he might feel that any mention here about them would bring a chorus of cackles and jeers from all his AZB fans.

When I see new ventures that seem poorly planned or even verging on scams, I wonder whether they are a net negative. "Stay away from pool -- too many swindlers and fools." I have heard that the "issue" between the PBT and RJR was used as a case history in business schools for how not to handle sponsorships.
 
I could list about ten similar ventures that have failed in recent times, many of which ultimately cost their respective creators a whole heap of money unfortunately.

It’s always sad to see projects like this falter in my view. Folks enter into these things with such enthusiasm and excitement it often clouds their judgement regards the reality of time, effort and expenses involved.
 
The hypothetical 16-ball set listed below would be interesting to me from both a playing and collecting perspective.

Five yellows numbered 1-5.

Five blues numbered 1-5.

Five reds numbered 1-5.

One black numbered 6.

Ball and number font design in the classic style of Aramith Premiers would be preferable to my eye.
 
Not really, sir.

Just thinking aloud about a set I’d quite like to see… inspired by talk of the Triball cutthroat design.

Perhaps I’ll make it myself. 🙂
