A New Sub Forum? What do Y'all think?

Would an Ask the Scientist sub forum be a good idea?

Do Y'all think that it might be a good idea if there was a sub forum for technical questions?

An 'Ask the Scientist' sub forum. This would be different than the 'Ask the Instructor' as most of those questions are more about stroke mechanics, techniques, & flaws.

The Ask the Scientist would be more about the physics of what happens & why.

If management would be open to it, I guess they would have to get a bit of a commitment from Dr. Dave & Bob Jewitt & whoever else would qualify.

They might not want to or be able to make such a commitment.

Anyway, it was just a thought. What do Y'all think?
 
I don't think it's necessary. Dr. Dave and Bob Jewett seem to find the threads that they wish to contribute to and provide their information.

IMO, a sub forum is designed when a certain subject seems to overtake the main thread. I think the most recent one was the aiming forum. And I think the main reason for that was to provide the trolls their own play area. Seemed like more arguing over which is best, why none work, etc.

Tournament section makes sense
For sale section makes sense.

What I'd like to see is some sticky's disappear when they've outlived their usefulness. And I think if the mods reviewed some of their subforums and realized they weren't being used, that would clean up the site as well.
 
I think we have too many sub forums that were started with good intentions, but are under utilized. As far as I know, rarely anything gets deleted in this forum. So, everything is archived, and searchable like a database. Searching through old postings, I have learned alot over the years.

The problem I see is we have a short collective memory. So, the same topics and questions gets posted over and over again. Sometime duplicates from different posters within hours of each other.

I think a great feature would be where forum users can mod up/down a useful post, or add key words, and move them to the right forum (perhaps based on keywords). Maybe the rep button can re-purposed. So, if you type in chalk in the search results the highest modded posts would show up first, then the regular search results.

No, it'd get like 3 posts a week and would just add clutter. Too many subs already.
The info is interesting to me and I'd click if I came across it in the main forum, but I don't want to
have to actively hunt through other forums to see it.

Sometimes I think they should merge 90% of these back into the fold.
I used to visit the 14.1 sub but it's currently got 30 posts in 30 days.
 
I agree with what's already been said. I don't see enough posts on this topic to warrant any extra handling.

Now if you were asking to make a new Bonus Ball subforum...
 
Or a subforum for trash whomever's reputation for the week.

Well, it's shaping up as a 'no', but the 2 best known AZB science guys are a bit split.

Dr. Dave is a maybe with the scientific commitment & Mr. Jewitt is a no.

Just an update for a bump since the 'hot' thread is gone.

Yeah Mr. Greg,

I'm not a 'licensed' doctor either.

But... I can do CPR, put on a tourniquet, splint a broken leg, do a tracheostomy & give you some advice that might save you from dying before your time from a dreaded disease that 'licensed' doctors can't or won't 'cure' on any consistent basis.
