Need help with cue material knowledge.

Don't you guys realize that they kill animals to make these cues....

They kill elephants to make your precious ivory cues... elephants are the most peaceful animals on this planet... they are herbivores and they don't harm other species... and yet humans kill them to make cues that could be made even more beautiful with out having to kill a utopia animal like an elephant.

Does no one care about this at all?

Poor elephants...

very sad.

Anyone knows good cues that aren't made with dead elephants? can you please suggest me a few if you don't mind? Thanks.

By the way, I'm not trying to insult anyone, i was just wondering if I'm the only one who cares?

You should research the topic before you come on here with your thoughts- I would say the VAST MAJORITY of cues made do not contain ivory.

What about the plant? It never hurt anyone. Elephant kabobs? Where?

Cows are peaceful animals too but that doens't mean I won't eat Hamburgers. In fact, the hindu culture "treats them with the same respect 'as one's mother' because of the milk they provide."

Actually this is a forum and i was under the impression that it was a place to share thoughts..

And also i did research it my friend, almost all the cues i looked for at a high price says Ivory.

I don't think I'm the bad gay here caring for a precious animal like an elephant.

Trees are pretty harmless too, so you may want to look at something fiberglass. Sorry, I couldn't resist. I care about elephants, and I'm sure many others do to, but I'm not sure this is the right forum to try to save them. For the record, nothing I own contains ivory (at least that I'm aware of).

I don't use ivory in my cues. I only use man made ivory substitute such as Elforyn...very hard to tell the difference.

Awesome, but how do you know when a cue is a mock ivory and not the real thing?

In the cue stats, it doesn't say the type of ivory it just says ivory period... makes it hard to find a cue of my personal liking for these reasons...

And also, i respect that you would take it into consideration for buying a cue.

Are you kidding???? How could you think noone here knew about ivory?? Sure, I know about it. So what?? What can I do about, if I wanted to?? I haven't had a cue with ivory in it for years. But I'm not gonna bash the people who do. Before he died, I had some snail mail conversation with the actor Jimmy Stewart about this. I would think most people here are MUCH more aware, and have been longer, than you.

Oh, please...stop hitting yourself!!

I'm sorry if i sounded like i was on a rant, i just got very frustrated looking for cues for hours and every time i found one i really liked, it was ivory...

Isn't it amazing how a little typo can change the whole meaning
of the post. (I'm assuming it was a typo, if not, never mind!)

Seb,

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but I believe it is illegal to import any ivory into the US in any shape or form. There was even a thread a while ago talking about a cue that was confiscated by customs because it had ivory in it (or was thought to have ivory in it).

I am sure there is still some ivory floating around and is used at some point or another, but I doubt you'll find it in say 98% of the cues made today. (Thats just a guess and opinion... not factually based).

This of course doesn't mean that cuemakers in other countries aren't using ivory in building their cues, but given the expense of it, It probably wouldn't be cost effective to use it anyhow.

So you can put your mind at ease about ivory... for the most part.

My 2 pennies...

My cue has ivory in it. Ivory Joint, Ivory diamonds in the points and Ivory diamonds in the butt.

Do I care about Elephants? No, not really. Do I own an elephant? No (well part of one if you count the ivory in my cue LOL) Do I live in a part of town that is shared with wild elephants? No.

I can see where you are coming from. Elephants are innocent creatures kthat are killed for their tusks. So are chinchillas, killed for there fur, so are cows, killed for leather. Same with baby cows, killed for veal, a luxury.

Its the nature of the world. I deal with it and take advantage of it. I think a fur coat looks great on my wife. I think Ivory looks great on my cue and I think veal looks good on my plate.

Heath <------ knows he is gonna be called the bad gUy here, but doesnt care, owns a beautiful cue.

What if the ivory came from from elephants that died NATURALLY? Do you still not like them? Should we just let those ivories go to waste?

P.S. Elephants are far from being the most peaceful animal in the world. Elephants on musk kills more rhinos than us humans.

I believe its only illigale to import/export items containing ivory without specific documentation that the ivory contained is pre ban ivory, the same goes i belive to ivory by itself. though theres always loopholes in everything, but with certain documentation in regards to how the ivory was obtained, it can still be imported and exported and used. though i could be wrong.

and in regards to seb9, i'd say your best bet would be to find a cue maker you like, and have one commisioned to your liking. that way you can be sure it doesn't contain any ivory or buckhorn or any other organic matierals aside from the obvious wood.

.damn, Icon,,,all this talking about veal has done made me hungry again and I jus' ate lunch ....lol

LMAOROF.....it is funny how that came out..and to be honest customs is tight on alot of things..i was speaking with a cuemaker in the Phillipines about exotic woods and he stated that he has had wood confiscated while going thru customs..so its not just ivory..I dont see any problem with havesting Ivory from animals that have died a natual death. I dont kow very much on elephants but i dont know the growth rate of their tusk but if its something that grows quickly i would rather see poachers havest the tusk and allow the animal to continue to live, then to see them shoot the poor animal dead and just steal the tusk, but with the new elephant ear wraps and cases..there are some death elephants blowing thier trunks for nothing....ohhh im am so going to hell for that last comment.
