I hear ya. I got my usual strenuous workout today, when I drove the 16 miles to the poker room and back (while eating a Big Mac)...

( but No fries.... I'm watching my weight )

And I hear you, Smorg. The death of Jim Fixx convinced the world not only that running a marathon couldn't prevent CAD but that running could result in sudden death. It was 1984 when Fixx died while running and from that day on I haven't run a step.

Come to think of it, I didn't run before 1984 either. Hummmmm, maybe 6'5" and 290Lbs. is a good thing????

I weigh more than that, but I'm short for my weight.
Doug
( according to the height-weight scale, I should be 12' 9" )

( all this talking & typing has made me HUNGRY )

Getting Old vs Growing Up

Some view growing up as reaching maturity levels. Others view it as relinquishing their youth. While I find I enjoy the more mature crowd, I surely do not see many who have given up their youth. And why should we?

You are only as old as you feel.

How do I feel?

Turned 46 in February...

I just got to the downhill half of my forties. It is kind of hard to believe I have been playing pool for almost thirty years now. Started getting serious about playing when I turned seventeen and decided to give myself a pool table as a graduation present from high school. I still can't believe I am now going to be getting into the age range my friends and I used to think of as really old! I no longer think that but way too often feel like I must be about 85.

Gregory, you're the same age as me down to the month. I got hit with a great line from a (much) younger team mate this week - "If you've been playing for over 27 years, shouldn't you be a lot better by now?"

I'm almost 23. Ahhhhhhh I wish I was a pup again but one morning you wake up and realize you're not a kid anymore:D

Birthdays ......

I try not to count birthdays anymore, since I saw an old movie called "Shangri-la" (1930's) where an old Monk tells a young Englishman that "Every time you count a birthday, you build another fence around your mind" ... That sounded so profound to me that I am trying not to worry so much about how old I am, rather how much I am enjoying the time I have left ... OnePocket and Str8Pool are taking up a great deal of that time ...

BTW - I was 65 last time I counted ...

You had a good reason NOT to run before 1984 you were too busy driving that Hemi Cuda !:D

I'm 24 years old.
Big surprise for me to see so many old players here. That's good because I can get a lot of info from the experienced players.

26 myself, although I've discovered that everyone I meet between the ages of 28 and 35 seems to judge me as being exactly the same age as they are. People I play pool with who are in their later 20's and 30's are always surprised that I'm only 26. I think it's the beard that does it.

19 years old, and still learning ;)

I thought I was getting old when I hit 19 a few months ago. My respect for the older shooters on this forum

My baby brother just turned 50 today...ouch. I'm 53. This is a very special age for me: I am the same age as the year I was born...53.

Yes, I remember the Beatles! The 1st 3 albums I ever bought (bought together) were: Jimi Hendrix - "Are You Experienced"; Cream - "Disraeli Gears"; and Strawberry Alarm Clock - "Incense & Peppermints". 2 out of three isn't bad :D. They all had cool covers. I miss albums :(.
