Good afternoon, everyone.

I'm currently writing a semi-autobiographical book about my thirty-something years as a pool player, mingled with a few coaching hints, trickshots, and anecdotes meted out by colourful characters met along the way.

I thought some invaluable feedback and constructive criticism might be gleaned if a brief sample was posted up on here for the good folks of the AZB forum to review. I have a slight problem, however, in that the segment I have in mind contains one curse (the F word) amongst the eight-thousand others in the chapter. I am unable to blank it out as the eighteen individual pages (with diagrams) have been converted to JPEG files to render them compatible for messaging.

My question is, therefore: Would this one instance of swearing be considered acceptable as being part of a larger body of text, or would it be advisable to refrain from posting? I've only recently joined and keen not to receive a ban!

Many thanks.

You may be banished to the Aiming forum.
They practice Voodoo and other strange things there.

I would suggest to consult the management about using AZ's blog function.

...sounds interesting....if it is not acceptable...sign me up for a PM

Use an image editor to redact the word. If you don't have one just pm me the JPEG and let me know where it's roughly at on the page and I can do it for you. It's a 30 second job in Photoshop.

Many thanks for your kind offer, sir.

If you are writing a book about pool spanning a 30-something years era, I can't even imagine the F-word not being in it. And for that matter, I would expect it to be used in numerous places if you are creating past dialogue and conversations from a pool hall.

Unless, of course, you play in a church.

FWIW, when I was first learning to play pool, as a kid, we used to go into this church that I wasn't a member of and play pool in the basement. From what I remember, nobody ever came down there to run us away.

A year or so back at Hawaiian Brian's, where I play on Sundays, we had a church going on in front in the ballroom while the rest of us sinners were playing pool in the back where the pool tables are. I don't know if they could hear us, but there were some choice words being said in both ends of the building. God's name was being shouted a lot of time.

This should not be an issue. Of course you can blank it out on the PDF.

I do things like that with PDFs every day. It's easy. Seriously.

You don't need Photoshop, you don't need to convert it to another format.

You can do it hundreds of different ways if you want, you can translate it to Chinese first if you like, but why do all that?

.

It should not be a problem if it is used in the context of a story.

Calling someone on here an 'F' might get you a vacation, but using the word to recreate a story should be OK if it is one word out of 8000.

I've never been able to figure out the swearing rules here but I see enough offensive shit on these forums written in "clean" language that I don't think a F bomb should lead to too harsh a condemnation.

There's always ways around language without going full ghetto.

I was arguing with a guy in mixed company once....
...I summed it up thusly...
"You aren't really that bad of a person....as a matter of fact, if your parents ever decide to
get married, I would be honored to be a guest at the wedding."
:)

If I get this right, your concern is an F Word in your jpeg files? Small matter.
You can use online pdf editor like https://www.pdfescape.com/ to whiten/blank out the F word
OR upload your jpeg files to your Google drive or some other storage site like Dropbox and provide the link here. that way azb moderator cannot accuse you of F....ing here since your jpeg files is offsite and not on azb

Many thanks, Spartan. :)

I did consider something like this might be possible in all honesty, but thought I'd politely ask for a little leniency in the hope I might be able to post up the chapter intact before doctoring the pages.

the first pool room that I was a regular at was in 1961 and the owner had a strict no cursing rule.
So I would say go fornicate yourself.
He didn't like that either.
I got barred a day or two for that one.

Go into your bathroom and look at yourself in the mirror. If you decide you don't like what you see and you never want to be recognized as yourself again, look deep into your own eyes, pivot, shift, swerve, and repeat the acronyms "TOI" and "CTE" until the letters all run together and your vision is obscured by parallel lines. Shove a half dozen roses up your bum and you'll have arrived.

I won't be seeing you on the other side.

Good grief, sir, I shudder to think what you had to endure to become a gold member!
