A Request For Help.

One of the many things that prevents me from playing more pool is my job.

I have become an administrator in a middle school in Pasadena Texas.

I have convinced my supervisors to let me start a billiards club. To make this a reality I need at least two tables that are portable.

I watched a video of an australian tournament that was played on a foldable table.

What I am asking of the people on the forum is a donation, discount or financial support to provide two portable tables that I can get this club started with.

Regards,
Marcus

When I was a kid, I used to go to summer recreation at my grade school. They had a pool table "top" that was one piece that sat on top of the cafateria tables (folded the seats on each side up out of the way)

When not in use the table was lifted off and slid behind a wall section in the cafateria...

It was the most popular item in the whole rec center...I never really did get to play since there were always high school aged kids with thier own cues that came in (even though they were not supposed to) and basically dominated the table.......The line was always 10 deep for "next game" .

Not sure were you would find something like that....

Bump.... This could be the start of something big in the houston area if I had a shred of support.

Portable tables

There is a local Pool table manufactuer near me that made a portable table for sort of a functional display. The 'slate' was made with 1" thick high density particle board and held up very well while still being light weight enough for 1 person to carry. I believe they designed it in sections so it could come apart and be easily transported.

Maybe, with your direction, the kids could do a bit of fund raising?

While not as easy as a kind AZ benefactor handing over a donation, I bet the kids would take some real pride in the result if they achieved this on their own.

Good luck...sounds like an awesome idea.

That's an excellent idea !

If 5 members will each kick in $10, I'll match it with $50. I wish I could do more, but I'm not a rich man.

I like it !!!!

Here's a suggestion to add to it:

Why don't you set up a donation fund for AZr's to contribute atleast 5.00 each for the cause and as long as there's a recognition and a trail to follow up on for all the donors... I think most of us would be more than happy to contribute to your cause !!!

This will also give you enough to supply the playing package and general maintenance as well... if you cannot get a good deal on one I have a solid connection with my former employer "Aurora Road Billiard Supply" in melbourne that would probably donate a playing package to you which includes:cues, balls, rack, chalk, powder etc....

In worse case scenario I can get the playing package at wholesale cost !

Also, I might be able to get you a real good price on the table as well with them but I think freight charges would offset the effectiveness of the savings...

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance in helping you achieve your goal... I am all for helping clean up the misguided image this wonderful game has endowed....

Please call anytime !

If you do the leg work of finding out exactly what you need and posting it and the costs up along with the particulars of how you plan to build the club I think you will get some interest. I know TAR would pitch in.

But. The way the first post in this thread is worded does not inspire much confidence. Simply asking for donations for a folding pool table with out stating how much you are looking for or what the tables cost or any details tells me you probably dont know the details yet yourself.

If you are serious, put all of the info together. There is more than one member of this board who could, if convinced it was going to actually happen, very easily cover the expense of what you propose. While I sure wouldn't count on that, if you do the research to impress someone like that you will find that the rank and file members would probably surprise you with their generosity.

Good luck and I am looking forward to hearing the details of this great idea.

Just what do you mean by portable? Foldaway or on rollers?
Maybe you have a local pool hall that would donate daytime table time for your club meetings.
