most posters on here might recall my talking about "Dave", the 1998 Vegas BCA 8-Ball Champion. he worked at the same naval base as myself, and he would come down and play some 9-Ball with me occassionally. he was also the college roommate and best friends with Tom "Dr Cue" Rossman.

received a phone call earlier tonight from Tom's wife, Marty "Ms Cue" Rossman informing me that Dave had passed away yesterday (tuesday). if you will recall he had gone to the movies one night, and at the end of the show felt so bad he couldnt get out of his seat. they called an ambulance for him, determined he had a stroke, and later determined brain tumors were the reason for the stroke.

i will certainly miss Dave. he was a genuine good guy, a heckuva player, and the type that people just truly enjoyed. may The Lord grant him eternal peace.

My BCA Records book shows the 1998 BCA 8-Ball Champion in the open men's singles division was a fellow named David Edwards of Shelburn, Indiana. He must have been one heck of a shooter. He's earned a place in pool history with some of the greats. Several others who did what he did were Ronnie Wiseman, Jimmy Reid, Nick Varner, Danny DiLiberto, and Paul Guernsey. God rest his soul.
 
Sad News

Dave was an awfully good guy. Every time I saw him at a tournament, he was as friendly as could be. He played pretty sporty as well. Winning that BCA tournament is no easy feat. I'm glad I got to see him a while back in Terre Haute. I wish I would have spent a little more time with him. He'll be missed. RIP

Dave was a great guy and was the kind of guy that made you stop and watch a match verses playing in your own.

Unbelievable talent, and a threat in ANY tourneyment.

At 55 years young, a sad passing indeed.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave about 10 years ago. Not only was he a great player but a great person as well.

I will miss you Dave.

Hello, my name is Nathan Edwards, I'm Dave's son. I just want to thank all of you for posting such nice things about my dad. He may be gone but his local legend status will always live on in memories all of us share, from playing aginst him, or have watched him play, or just knew him as a friend or maybe worked with him. He was a great man and I'll be lucky to become half the man and pool player he was. I was thinking of maybe making a memorial website to him if you all are interested in maybe post your good stories and fond memories of him there. Let me know and I'll make it and post the URL here. Because after all thats all we have left so we might as well share them. On a closing note I'd like to thank you for all your sympathy and for stopping by the funeral/visitation if you did so. I do plan on playing in the local tournaments in Terre Haute too pretty soon so look for me and come say hi. I always try as my dad did to be a friendly person so come say hi and introduce yourself. I'm not near the caliber of player he was but I'm trying, after all his success didnt come over night. Especially in 98 as I watched when he won the open. But I'll share that another time. I think I was victim #4 for Dave that year. We reminisced about Ohio (I grew up in Dayton) and Indiana (my brother went to Purdue and my sister to IU), before the match started. He was such a nice guy, I hardly minded getting beat like 5-2.

I just remembered he played a real nice simple game, nothing too spectacular. He complimented me when I made a good shot and did not gloat after winning. I wish more pool players could be like him. He just had a real good attitude.
