A Simple Comment on Billiard Friendships

Very true Will. I remember our first phone conversation. I did not know about Az and thought I had too many cues (which was probably around 8 at the time). :o You pointed me in the right direction. I found like guns, you never have enough cues. I too have made a number of friends starting with you and thanks to you.

Merry Christmas and a Healthy New Year to all.
Phil

Hi Phil,

Great to hear from you! I hope you have a great holiday season.
You need to come to Kansas City for a visit in 2016! Some great BBQ here!

Will

I have certainly made a lot of life long friends through billiards. It is a real treat to see you and others walk into my booth every year at the super billiards expo. It is kind of like a friends reunion there every year. From the super friendly smile of Tommy Kennedy to the hard line pool cue price negotiators looking to pick up a cue to flip, it is always a blast. Your ICCS show that I have had the privilege of attending twice was also a friends reunion here in Atlanta and in St Louis.

This is a very nice post and quite true.

Through interaction here, I have had the pleasure to meet and even become friends with many az members.

There really are some great people who hang around azb.

And, Will, you are one of the absolute best of the bunch!

Happy holidays and a bright 2016 to all.

best,
brian kc

A side benefit of living in the world of pool, but one not mentioned often enough. :)

Been playing since 1961. Most of my friends are people I met are through pool....and still ongoing. Pool is more than a game.

Yes, yes and yes.

I too have been honored to travel "the yellow brick road" and made many good friends along the way. Hope to visit with you soon.

It really is amazing, the number of wonderful, great people that are in my life today solely because of my love of billiards throughout my entire life.

Particularly at this time of year, I reflect on the friendships and fellowship that have come my way, and I simply want to take a moment to express my appreciation for this benefit that my love of pool has afforded me.
And yes, many of my treasured friendships were begun through my interaction on AZB over the years.

We are fortunate to have somebody like you, Will. You've done more for cue collecting than anybody I know. We need more like you.

Best wishes and happy holidays,

Chris

Amen Brother, when I stop and think about it I've met most of my friends through pool. People I likely would have never encountered who've turned out to be some of the best people I've ever known.

I've made a lot more friends in the pool community than I ever expected.

Now, if I can just keep them from interacting with my non-pool friends on Facebook then I'll be set.

Will,
You and Rhoda are a treasure to me and Anita and we wouldn't have met except for our mutual love of pool. Merry Christmas.
Don

True enough, Will. Having a shared passion seems to bring people together. I've found the same to be true with guns and, i'm sure, any other passion/subculture.

I agree about the Kansas City BBQ. It's (part of) the reason why I'm there often.

Don

Don,
it is now your turn for you and Anita to come to Kansas and spend some time with Rhoda and me again. Let's time it so we can go to a great local dinner theater, go to a large Shooters-Olathe pool tournament, and in general have a good time discussing pool, mathematics, pool league structures, and play some pool at our home!

p.s. We Really enjoyed our time with you in Texas!

See you soon!

Will

TATE,

You are a well known treasure to the entire world of pool. Not just for your legendary contributions as The Palmer Collector, but for your forum insights and friendships with many, many pool enthusiasts.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Friends are people who understand the same things.

I was overseas in the 80s, surrounded by snooker players...I was getting along just fine
....I started playing snooker and pool at the same time...we had 12 and 9 footers.

Then two pool players showed up....we'd been to the same action spots....
...we became inseparable for that trip.
I feel the same way on AZ...we all got a lot to share...as long as youse guys don't start
talkin' 'bout golf on a 6x12....I hate that game...

I may have met the OP at the Kansas BCA trade show....
....I like what Will brings to the forum

I lived in Trinidad for three months in the late 1970s, and had my first experiences on a 6x12 snooker table. Wow!
It is everything it's cracked up to be. It was a blast, and so different from the gold crowns I was used to that it is hard to describe.

On a separate note, I remember sending a postcard to Rhoda (my wife) with a big typo in it.
I said, "Having a great time, wish you were her." :o. :sorry:

Very true Will,
I have met some of my closest friends through our shared insanity.
Best to everyone
