A small Tragedy...

Hi all.
I'm not sure where to post this so I leave it to the operators to move it where they think best.
In 15 years I have been sending/receiving cues to/from USA I never faced any problems. Unfortunately there is a first time for allmost anything..
Recently I got back on a trade this great Skip Weston cue:

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=158572&highlight=Weston

After using that cue as a trade item I shipped it back to USA via EMS.
I could not insure the cue since I'm not the original owner and could not provide an original invoice.
Unfortunately, the cue is lost(stolen?), there is no sign of it and after 6 reports at usps and EMS here I have lost any hope. 3k just gone..
You never know though, it's a "small" world and the least I can do is list it here so fellow az members keep it in mind if it shows up sometime..
Thank you all for your time, and best wishes for the holidays to you and your families!
Petros

I didn't think you needed proof of value to establish an insurance amount to the U.S.P.S.

When I go in to mail something, they ask me the value, I give them a number, they charge me appropriately, and .....

But, then again: I've never had anything lost or stolen.

Don't give up just yet. There was a post of a $3000-5000 cue that was "missing" in transit via USPS here, early this year or late last year. The cue showed up 5 weeks later (more or less). In any case, goodluck to you

Thank you for your kind words.
I shipped the cue almost a month ago and filed 6 reports about it and they couldn't provide any info at all..
At least by posting it here it helps avoiding anyone reselling it (if someone stole it).

If your referring to my situation with JFORNEY and the 3k wrapless Tascarella, that had nothing to do with any post office. Just a dishonest piece of sh^t.

To the OP, I have only had one bad incident from this site and with cues (the one above) and it took about 45 days for it all to clear up. All I can say is I know how you feel but hang in there, DO NOT GIVE UP and hope for the best my friend.

Hate to hear this....that was my favorite Skip I ever had. He really nailed my design. Will keep a lookout if it ever resurfaces.

Lost Skip Weston Cue

Hopefully the cue will still turn up.
I would keep the pressure on them to make sure they are actually looking for it.

I had an insurance claim with the USPS on a vintage case damaged in shipping and the local office was difficult to deal with.
I had to get a so-called expert to verify the value and still ended up bypassing the local people and went direct to their main office.
It took about 4-months.
At least it was insured and these things rarely happen but when they do, because we are dealing with parcel post service i.e. USPS-UPS-FedEx,
they aren't normal when it comes to claims, like ICC regulated freight companies that have real claims agents.
The post office sent me to their bulk mail department where they took it personally, and when I asked this person what is going to happen to the case
she ripped it out of my hands and screamed "it's going auction".
After a few months I refused to deal with her and finally got something done.

I truly hope the cue turns up and from similar uninsured situations posted on AZ in the past they have turned up.

Thank you all for your support.
I'm gonna be bumping this for a while in order to inform most of the fellow az members.

I bought a Scruggs from Canada and it came U.S.P.S.,Postmaster and neither seller or buyer could track it, took 8 weeks to get it and it was held up in customs.Hopefully that is your problem also.Good luck.

You can no longer trust the United States Postal Servive. I believe that for security reasons they x rays all the packages that transit their system(I rightfully so); but at the same time it allows thiefs that happend to be working for the Post Office to pick and choose whatever item they want to steal.
A Paul Rubino cue that I sent to Paul, for repair, disappeared from the Post Office 11 months ago. Trying to communicate with a Post Office official that will give you a reasonable response to any investigation that they could be conducting is impossible. All is classified.
Fed Ex is no great thing either. If you do not believe me, talk to Samsara.

maybe

I bought a cue extender from Benefica, and it never showed ..... Finally after maybe a month, he sent another one. End of story. No muss no fuss. Another three weeks went by and I walked into work and sitting on my desk was the original one sent.unbent, undamaged, were it not for the 6-7 weeks shipping date on the outside, you would not have known it wasn't shipped earlier in the week. That was between Californai and South Florida. I sure wish the same luck to you and that it shows up undamaged.

What country did you mail it from? The usps has nothing to do with any other's country's postal system and does it ever say it arrived in customs or anywhere else in the united states. EMS is available in many country's but it is not part of the usps. What's the tracking number......please post
Thanks

I shipped it from Athens, Greece on November 16.
EMS here confirms that it arrived at JFK airport on November 17.
No other info is available.. They told me to consider it lost and that there is an increase on the packages lost since September..
Never me or the receiver got any more info on either side..
Tracking is: EE202779394GR
The only info displayed is: "We have received notice that the originating post is preparing to dispatch this mail piece".
I did exactly what I have been doing for the last 15 years, exactly the same way..
Never had a problem, except a week's delay once..
The receiver has a flawless reputation, I have dealt with him many times and another cue which I shipped to him end of November reached him normally within a week! I'm not familiar with US laws concerning export/import over there but both cues would have a reason to be inspected I guess.. We thought that the first package would arrive before the second one which arrived on time without any problems. The first one is still missing.. I think (hope not) that is simply lost (or stolen?)..

That means that the shipper(greece postal service) has sent a electronic message into the system that this package will be moving thru system..it doesnt mean it acually did and normally the usps website would say arrived at jfk which it does not say so it has never entered the usa. Who said it arrived at jfk..greece postal service because if they did you need to contact them because it's not what usps and customs is saying.....It would also say its cleared customs at jfk which it doent,I will internally try this tracking number later
Thanks

Its 1-9-2010 and this cue still hasnt shown up so it was obviously stolen in greece and never made it out of shippers country..end of story..

Yes that is a possibility it was stolen or lost here.
But what can I do to prove it?
In any case it was not insured..
Usps never replied to my reports (they could just state "this item never reached USA").
I've been using EMS here for 15 years and never had a cue stolen/lost. The other one (with an ivory content as well if this applies to laws I'm not familiar with) that I shipped on the end of November reached the same receiver normally in 6 days!
Thanks again for every effort you make even if nothing comes out. I really appreciate it.

The Skip cue is EASILY RECOGNIZABLE,
I've never seen one like it before"
Keep on checking,
keep on posting,
Hopefully it will turn up soon"
Good Luck to You, Sir

Can you can another 'original invoice' from the cue maker? (I dont know about the cue maker in question so dont fry me if he's no longer around)
