The titlist Szamboti that was recently on ebay was the cue that was stolen from me via the mail. I posted numerous threads regarding paypal and the person that stole the cue.

I need to thank Barry Szamboti, Ken Kerner, Tom Gallager, Fast / Loose, Cueaddicts, and the people that laid off that thread when I asked to keep it on the down low. It was a combined team effort that let us reclaim the cue. It was touch and go till the end but in the end it all worked out. I won't get into the gory details but it was surrendered without incident.

I will say that my faith in law enforcement, and paypal is very low.

Big congrats on getting the cue back.

Are there any details you are willing to share in helping avoid (or resolve) a similar situation in the future?

Take Care

Fantastic that you got the cue back!! Looks like your diligence paid off; good for you!

Seriously tho....dude, the curiosity is killin' me!!

I`m glad things worked out in your favor. It`s good that people on this site look out for one another.

So......is it going to be a mystery? Another guess who? These thieves need to be exposed.
Sorry, just getting tired of all the threads that start with just some teasing info, and never the full story.
Congrats on getting your cue back.

It seems likely the identity of the scum may be obvious. Another guess would be legal threats with rock solid evidence convinced scum to give up.

Just guesses. But I would love it if this guy fried anyway. You can still move forward after cue is in your hands. And considering how many guys this dirtbag has screwed over, he deserves it!

Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

stick together

It is great to hear that although there are a few conflicts on this forum from time to time, when push comes to shove that there are people here that will stick up for one another. I just hope I can count myself in that group. I would do what ever I could to get a stolen cue back for ANY of you. By the way who was it, I don't think it should be a secret. But if there is a reason it is so be it.

Glad to hear!!! I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER

I always wanted to say that and have it really mean something

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem if noone else can help and if you can find them maybe you can hire The A-Team.

i thank god that only a handfull of people here in Greece know much about custom cues and their pricing. Everybody here knows only Predators and Schons. As a result, stealing a cue is worthless. Good to hear that you got your Szamboti back.

Ok, I don't care if you want to keep the thief's name a secret but I'd like to hear HOW you got it back........as I'm sure everyone else here would too.
MULLY
glad you got it back and my curiosity of how you got it is killing me

The guy who had it was a nobody. A garagesaler that didn't know anything about cues. I put a warning in another thread because he had a palmer on ebay and to watch his description.

As far as to what happened. I had many high's and low's in this sting. One moment the law can help, one moment it can't. In the end, it was a backroom meeting where he came to his senses very quickly.

Every time you think you have the solution, a monkey wrench is thrown in very quickly. You must plan every conceivable variation. You must be willing to go to plan b, c, d, e, f and g without a moments hesitation.

I had to phone Barry, send him pictures I had on file of the cue. The setup was as follows, Barry gave him the numbers of two "collectors", Ken and Tom, one collector was going to bid a hard number, the other a greater hard number. His greed cost him, he went with the high number. The confrontation was very short, he succumbed to his guilt handed the cue over and promised to make good on paypal, which he did the moment he got back to Philly, he is going to the police to squash the complaint against me that I sent him an empty box. I won't press any more charges unless he doesn't hold up his end of the agreement. Believe me, he is going to do the agreed upon resolution. Imagine your disappointment when you drive with the anticipation of hitting a very big score, to find out that you have been set up. This swing of emotion, not to mention about 10k, will weigh very heavily on him for a long time. But don't worry, I have already spoken to an attorney in the Philly area if this had to go that way.

After he left, he called me on the phone, continuing to apologize and explain his error in judgment. I asked him why, as a power seller with over 300 positive feedbacks would you risk your reputation and do something like this? Turns out that since our original transaction was around the holidays, he had spent the money on presents and such. I told him, hey I ain't a bad guy I would have worked with you. He said sorry a hundred times. I think he just made a snafu under pressure many of us have felt when an unexpected bill comes and you don't know where the funds are going to come from to cover it.

I truly believe that I would have gotten more help from the cops if someone desecrated a box of krispy kreme's than a lowly pool cue. What I had to deal with on that level IMHO is and was disgusting and to protect and serve, to me now, should be underwritten with "when it's easy for us, and we don't have to do much work". I mean I had to recover my own property even though there were TWO police reports on the incident.

I don't know who scroogemcduck is but he actually helped by honoring my request not to contact or tip him off when the original thread went awry. So don't hold ill towards him on this issue.

JV

They're always sorry when they get caught. If he was truly sorry he could have returned the cue without all the drama.

BTW nice sting!!!! Backroom meeting....classic. Who had the baseball bat?? ;)
