Ok, I've now got a Triangle on one of my shafts. I put it on myself by hand. Got it trimmed and shaped. But how in the world do you burnish this monster? I used a Porper Big shaver to trim it but the sides are still like asphalt.Best I could do was use my chunk of leather and a brown Sharpie. It ain't bad unless you look close, but there has to be something better? Don:cool:
 
I like to wet the side of the tip and then rup the sides of the tip on formica,like a countertop or the rails of a pool table work too,i do that before i play alot,shines it up and keeps it from mushrooming. ;)

The last triangle I used it started flaking real bad so I had to take it off.
 
I use a cone style burnisher...looks like a black joint protector.

do you guys consider Triangle tips "hard" ? I was under the mis-conception that my cue was soft...it's a Schon stl17 with a SS joint/Triangle tip/Schon ferrule. I was hitting with wood/wood joints and phenolics and they felt "hard" to me?....or "clicky" or whatever

perhaps I mistook hard for feedback?

the big shaver has a burnisher built in. dampen the edges, maybe even a small amount of saddle soap. I hold the burnisher with my feet and spin the shaft between my hands. I hope your tip is glued on good, rarely they come off when doing this.
 
You gotta use your "leg lathe" :) Assuming you are right handed, sit down, place the shaft across your thighs, and with your left hand roll the joint end of the shaft back and forth while holding a folded dollar bill around the tip end after wetting the side of the tip slightly.

Fold the dollar as many times as you can, and roll it until it gets so hot you can't hold it anymore. Do this a few times and it should look pretty good.
 
I REALLY like the Ultimate Tip Tool. It is a 4-in-1 tool that shapes (dime and nickel), roughs up, fixes any mushrooming and does an excellent job of burnishing.

this works too

I prefer to simply rub the side of an unburnished tip along the cloth underneath the rails on a pool table. It is easy, builds up heat fast, and puts that unused cloth under there to good use. You can burnish a tip like this in 20 seconds. Very lightly moisten the side of the tip with water or saliva. Don't lay your shaft totally flat on the table bed, keep it at a small angle so that only the tip and perhaps a portion of the ferrule touch the bed cloth. Rotate it every 2-3 seconds to ensure an even burnish.
 
:cool: Thanks guys,I appreciate the input.Trouble is though the Triangles are really grainy and defy most usual methods. Although the super glue method sounds like it might have some merit. Thanks Klopek:cool:
