A thank you note to Mr. Wiley, as I applied some advice he gave me some time ago last night and won the local 8 ball tournament. I'd played around some with the TOI, but never could convince myself to use it full time. Last night, I used it exclusively and shot much better than I normally do. Thought Mr. Wiley should get the credit.

uh oh

You've done it now. Didn't you read on here a few years back how all of that TOI was
a big scam so he could sell those DVDs. He made a fortune, netting over a hundred
dollars for only a few hundred hours work. TOI system was debunked on here by
countless experts and even some instructors. Although C.J. invited me to his home
to show me and work with me on this system at no cost to me, I had read enough
on here to see right through this. Are you a shill for C. J. trying to sell some of his
DVDs ?. Hmm

C.J. Wiley is a businessman.
That's what businessmen do.
Do we actually think we are gong to "play like the pros" after buying a video?
As you well know, that's all nonsensical advertising and marketing.

Which speaking of...

I bought the "Learn from the Best" video in the late 80s (remember that one?),
and it was the LAST pool video I ever purchased.
If players think they are going to glean "secrets" in pool from watching what
someone else does, they are fooling themselves.
What works for one person, rarely works the same for another.

The best way to learn is to play, have someone watch you,
ask him/her to tell you what he/she sees when you make mistakes,
correct accordingly, and then continue the practice like all get out.

IMO opinion, there are only a few maxims in pool:

Find your specific vision center,
Establish a routine,
Maintain a level cue (as practical as one can),
and learn what works best for YOU.

Anything anyone else attempts to "teach" you --especially through videos--
is a waste of time and money.

What really happened wasn't a result of CJ and his magic system. Your level of concentration was higher because you were doing something different and was mindful of not making mistakes. If you continue it will wane, and you'll go back to where you were before.
The same thing happens when you grab a house cue of the poolroom wall.

The all knowing Kreskin. Really? How do you begin to have a clue as to what helped him?

Tell me about it. Marketing is everything.
Last Summer I bought one of those inflatable dolls that are guaranteed to provide instant companionship. I took it home, blew it up with a bicycle tire pump, and retired for the evening.
Things were going along quit swimmingly until I bit her on the boob. She exploded and flew out the window.
I still miss her.

What you say may be partly true... but one can NOT just do "anything" different & play better.

What CJ brought out here with his version of TOI works.

Like with any method if one gets sloppy, then success wains.

I do not use it all of the time, but it is in my toll box & I keep using it from time to time & if I was not playing so much one pocket instead of other games, I would be using it much much more & perhaps even nearly 100%.

All the Best for You & Yours,
Rick

CJ was a good contributor here. Too bad he doesn't come on here more often.

I agree and at the risk of getting flamed I enjoyed many (not all) of his posts. Can you blame him for leaving with all the vitriol thrown at him by the trolls of AZB? It seems if you're going to play better than haters ... well, then they are going to hate you!

If any sane individual ever thought of getting involved in the pool business, from whatever approach, this thread would make him rather embrace a puddle of AIDS before moving forward.

When a man has been a success as a pool player, a teacher, a promoter, a gambler, and
a knowledgeable businessman.....it's hard to find an opening to knock him.....
...but some people burned the midnight oil and found a few flaws....

If you truly think CJ as a teacher, than you clearly missed his most important lesson of all.

B <---------- the game is the teacher

He was a good contributor, but he was only here for one thing.
To sell stuff.

Press On C.J.

Amidst all the tossing about of ridicule and scorn concerning the futility of being a pro pool player; scoffing at the thought of making a living at pool; we had a fine example of a gentleman who, besides being a nice guy, had brains, guts, and worked tirelessly to try and succeed at a pool business he started, besides promoting the pool game, and what do you get?

A bunch of haters and trolls who attacked, argued, and ridiculed his opinions when he was trying to make a living doing what few pro players do; come on a public forum and actually have dialogue with us bangers, shooters, shortstops and egomaniacs. So now that he's gone, I suppose you jerks are happy.
And you know who you are.

and we've got action

Bank it and tramp steamer, I don't care how long the tramp has been doing it, my money says bank it drills him, any game any time.
