A word about Chris Hightower and cueman Billiards. I just got off the phone with Chris. I have been thinking about buying another lathe for a while now. Just been doing all my home work as far as whats out there and cost. The deluxe I felt was much more then I needed as I don't have plans to ever build a cue. I have been doing small cue repairs for 30 years now, I have a couple lathes in my shop but nothing really great. What I have I have had for more then 20 years now. Just been looking to upgrade a little. I called Chris because I saw a lathe that Darcy (cuejo's) has in his shop from a video he posted on youtube. It was not a deluxe and I diden't think it was a mid size because it had a 6 ft bed. I called chris asked him to go on youtube and look at Darcy's video take a look at the lathe I was talking about. Chris in short is a really supper cool guy as you all know any way. He was able to help me and now is in the process of building me the lathe I wanted. I cant say enough about Chris and how greatfull I am for his help..There has been so much good talk about Chris on this site over the years and for a very good reason. There is no one better then Chris Hightower.

Thank you Chris, It was a pleasure talking to you today,

PS. I cant wait to get my new lathe.

You will love it

I have one of Chris' deluxe2 my first lathe and its exceptional as is Chris. Enjoy it.

It says something about a person when you never read/hear a bad thing about them. I have had a few dealings with Chris and he is always more than fair. Dealing with him makes you want to be better yourself.

So you went with the midsize, big bore chuck and long bed?
You won't be disappointed :)

Yes

Yes I did Darcy, Thank God you had that video on youtube, It was the only way I could show Chris exactly what I wanted. I know I will be happy with it. I'm really glad I went with a Hightower. I thought long and hard about everything and in the end it was Chris's reputation that made me buy a Hightower. Cant wait to get it and start playing around. My first project is to make one of those tip centering tools out of delrin, Like the one you show in one of your videos. Then some Shaft collets, Not sure where is the best place to get drlrin for a good price, Lots of it on ebay, About $5 or $6 bucks for 1 in dia x 12 In long Then $3 to $4 bucks for shipping about $10 all together. What dia size did you start with when you made yours, 1 in or 3/4 in ? I'll let you how it comes out LOL. Who knows maybe I'll post a video on youtube. I'm inspried by watching all your videos, I think I watch them two to three times a week, LOL Thanks Darcy........

Lol
You made a good choice :)
I don't know what I pay for delrin, I buy locally from a plastic supplier.
I usually buy 1-1/4 or 1-1/2 depending on what they have.
I just turn it down in the big lathe
Any suggestions for new videos?

sure

How about doing ferrule and drilling and tapping the ferrule and threading the tennon. I know it's been done before but I would love to see how you do it. another good one I think one you have not done yet is installing a joint pin, maybe doing a stainless steel joint. I just was looking at cuejo's on facebook, Wanted to send a friends request bit diden't see the send tab ????????

Dealing with Chris Hightower

If there is anyone to be trusted in AZ billiards it is Chris Hightower............

Chris's integrity is second to none. He will go out of his way to take care of any problem or answer any question. He is top notch in my book.

Good call on your lathe man. Both Chris and Todd have stellar reputations, and their service is second to none. I bought a different lathe (unfortunately), and both Chris and Todd have helped me improve and repair my lathe. When they volunteer to help me with one of their competitors products, that tells you what kind of people they really are.

I will agree that Chris is a good man and a pleasure to do business with. Chris can be very busy sometimes when you call but he will take the time to help with any questions that you have.

As to what Sniper has said, Chris will help you even if you did not buy from him.

Todd is also a very standup guy on the forum, he makes and sells one of the best router mounts for the PC router for the Taig based lathe. Todd will also help with any questions you have about a lathe setup or add-on.

The lathe he is building me is not pictures on his site, It not a lathe just for shafts it's a complete lathe, I don't have it yet so I cant post pictures maybe when it comes in I will.

I bought my first cue repair lathe found here through the good folks of AZ Billiards. It is a Chris Hightower lathe. When I received it there was no drive belt and I had no idea where or how to start looking for one. My friend at G's Cues, who put me onto this lathe, suggested I call the company. At first I thought, oh great.. A call to find a part and deal with some answering person that has to look in a book to get the part number only to receive the wrong one in the mail.. But, I called anyway.. And.. It wasn't a "person" answering the phone, it was Chris himself. Very polite, very understanding of my novice experience, and very patient with my rambling on due to the excitement of getting started with the passion of cue repair. I would highly recommend anyone that is interested in getting started with cue repair or building to contact Chris so he can build you exactly what you need. ~ Shawn G.
