A word to the wise guys

I have been checking out the postings on azbilliards for quite some time now. I have come to the conclusion that most of the participants in any given thread do not have a clue as to what they're talking about.
Most are either novices or wannabes. The knowledgable people can't get a word in edgewise. Thats why many have given up on this site.
Why can't the younger crowd learn to benefit from the experience the older guys have to offer. I guess its the same generation gap we have to deal with, with our teen age kids. Stop posting inane comments just for the sake of expressing your opinion if you don't know a thing about the subject at hand. It will make for a much more enjoyable experience for all.

You have some valid points but I don't think "most have given up on this site". This is the deepest pool of knowledge and experience I have found anywhere. Just have to filter out the BS, just like anywhere else on the internet.

Sometimes people get carried away and sometimes a few really bad actors pop up. But for the most part the place polices it self pretty well. If a person has thin skin they probably won't last too long though...nature of the beast.

Assume you play in the Phoenix area. One of the better players (if not best when he is playing) is a poster here when he gets time - Jimmy Mendoza --- he is originally from CA but has lived in Phx area for awhile. He finishes well in most tournaments. Check out his postings --- his handle here is Jimmy M.
Have talked to 3 people today from Phoenix. Hear its a little cold (50's with wind) for Phoenix. Take care, there are some good people on the site.

I knaow you are with TAR and I think you are doing great things for our sport. I value you're critique. I guess I am just a frustrated old f--t who
gets tired of going through a dozen posts to find one that makes sense.
I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it. Thanks for your input.

I hear you, but I have learned plenty here, and recently too.

This place is a lot like a great pool room, filled with folks of all shapes and sizes, lots of woofing, plenty of trash-talking and BS, some scamming, some action, some great information, some smart people, some dumb people, really just a little of everything. Like a pool room, one has to navigate towards that which interests them and steer away from that which doesn't. Hopefully, there is enough of what works for you to make it worth all the stuff you have to put up with worthwhile.

Its fun here.

Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it.

I get frustrated sometimes too, people chime in on things they really have no clue about....but..that is just part of the landscape.

The thing that is truly impressive about this place is the people that DON"T post. I have met some pretty impressive people through this site who never post but pay attention to what is going on here. So for all of you intranet hooligans out there...be careful..you never know who is lurking :D :D :D

I agree there are alot of people on here that have no clue what they are talking about. Young and Old alike

You are missing an important life lesson however. You should be able to learn from anyone, even people who are less skilled or knowledgeable than you.

*hopefully I won't have to explain this one*

SJDinphx, I think that the fact that people who don't know very much maybe like myself do come here to learn and by putting in their 2 cents gives then the info they are looking for. If you don't ask you will never learn anything and so should they just go along with everything not really knowing what is going on? or do they ask and try to find out? Obviously we all want new people getting an interest in the game and so as much as this put you out it's a good thing. HOWEVER I agree that it is better sometimes to remain silent and appear stupid that to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Therefore If they don't know what they are talking about they should really stick to questions, I'm sure nobody has a problem pointing someone in the right direction or helping them to understand.

Maybe it's because I am young... but I am a little insulted by this. But if that's the way it has to be around here, please do tell what the cutoff age is from "younger crowd" to "older guys", so that us young folk can sit quietly in the corner and be seen and not heard...

Granted, younger people can learn a lot from listening to the experiences told by those who have traveled those roads before... but it is very small minded to think that learning can't happen the other way around too. The older, more experienced people on this forum aren't too full of knowledge to learn something from someone younger.

I'll take it one step further and say I don't believe there is any reason to make a distinction. Let's just all post and learn from each other. But that's probably just my naive 26 year old brain talking...

To all the guys who responded to my rant, I did not intend to come across
that I was smart and anyone younger than me was stupid. I admit I was
a little crass in my wording. Anyone who cannot learn from their mistakes
is destined to be terminally stupid. Thanks for all the input.

Hi Dick

I tell stories about you all the time and many ask me how you are doing. Will never forget when you took me to Vegas when I was 18 or so. Love you always, Jackie.

JCIN --- if you and Chad do interviews and stories on the "old" players, you need to contact SJDinPhx.

SJDinPhx struck terror in the heart of many players from the west coast east with his playing.

So for all, when he posts some tidbit or story read it --- he is the REAL THING :) :)

Damn kids....always making sense at the wrong time. :D

You too have a good point, the juvenile posting of some is certainly not related to actual age. After you have been here awhile you get a feel for what certain posters will do in a given situation....you know the ones who will be reactionary, or inflammatory, or asinine, or even sometimes reasonable. For the most part age has very little to do with it. I would be willing to wager a small sum that if the OP picked out his top 10 posters that he feels are juvenile that their ages would surprise him. I have noticed that some of the most ridiculous stuff comes from a few of our more, shall we say, elder members (relative to me anyway....I am but a pup):p

That said....you young whippersnappers need to respect your elders...:D :D

(That is twice this week I have got to say whippersnapper....sweet.)

Thanks for bringing this up. I think it needs to be discussed every once in awhile. The trouble is that it usually goes down hill fast :D Seems there has been some good back and forth here.

Now....bring in the clowns!!!

Justin,

I'm not a gambler, but I'd bet money that you knew what my response in this thread was even before you read it! ;) :D

Haha, anyway, thanks for understanding, as always!:D

You always say what you mean and that is a trait to be admired.

Now....somebody call somebody else a poopy head or something....we are making far too much sense in this thread.

Only stupid question...

is the one that doesn't get asked. One should never hesitate to ask a question that you don't know the answer to. It may sound foolish to some, but the only way to learn what you don't already know is by asking.
