Yes I've seen it. Don't remember on what, but I don't think anything like a Schmelke.
I don't mean like a literal Schmelke. I meant that the joint was more like that door-knocker joint they used in the 70's on all their cues, but in this instance on a much earlier cue before that came out.

So like, but not the same.

I get that. I've seen similar joints on Shakespeare cues and other strange brands. Not really a precursor I think, just an odd joint.

This is the nicest Steve Mizerak signature cue I've seen. What model is it? I want one!
I thought you might be surprised by this one too. One of the more modern versions. You can see the rings match the "professional" series cues in the original catalog. This is the modern version of the SM-3.

Got pics of the miz dove? Or maybe better to create a new thread? I'm interested in knowing when the nicer older miz cues were made (dove cues, the miz collection, signature cues, etc).
Well, it looks like the thread is already well hijacked, so I guess I will go with it.

Outstanding!! thank you Chopdoc!

Had a Sandpiper show up on Facebook today and would not have known the model if not for these scans!
I thought you would like to see this one I came across while reconstructing all my files and research.
I can post some pics, but looks just like the 1992 SM-1 chopdoc posted. I still need to take some shots with it, so can't yet comment on feel.
I thought you would like to see this as well.

This is my SM-2. I just found these pics on my drive while organizing. One cool thing about this one is it is the complete original set with both shafts, joint protectors, and velvet sleeve.

These pics are from the seller, I can't seem to find the pics I took yet. I did clean up the ferrules and chalk staining on the case.

You might notice the top shaft in this pic isn't the greatest wood, but the lower one is very nice wood. Just one of the quality inconsistencies we see in these. The fit and finish of the rings and points are actually excellent. The linen is good and nicely pressed as well, not the nylon of the cheap versions. The forearm isn't straight grain, has some figure, but isn't spectacular. Some examples have really nice forearm wood, luck of the draw on that.

You can see the yellowing of the finish, which gives it a nice patina. Some will find it odd to talk about cues like this in such terms. This pic also shows the really nice butt sleeve wood, again, luck of the draw on that matter. Interestingly, the SM-2 in the catalog does not have that fancy ring at the bottom of the butt sleeve, which is a feature of the SM-1 in the catalog. I have no idea how common that variation is.

And apparently the tips of the points were light years apart.
That really varies a great deal. Probably more to the point it does not seem he cared to try to keep them even when turned from what I have seen.

Here is my latest miz dove. I can’t find any info on it in terms of the model. The shaft is non-original, and the tip was a screw on plastic tip. I glued on a Talisman soft red and cut, burnished, and shaped it last night. Nice shooter, pretty straigtht.

That is in the Birds of Florida Series, the second of five series in the 1992 catalog.
Model 841 Seagull

The series are:
1) The American Pride Series
2) The Birds Of Florida Series
3) The Steve Mizerak Mid-Range Series
4) The Steve Mizerak Professional Series
5) The Steve Mizerak Custom Cues Made For Your Company (These are the Miller Beer cues, including High Life, MGD, and Lite.)

The first two series are the same "low end" "K-Mart" quality, then the mid-range is a bit better, then the Pro are the good ones. The "company" beer logo cues are back down to the level of series 1 and 2.

I looked at a catalog scan of the Birds of Florida series, and I see what you mean by mine looking like an 841 Seagull. However, the blocks in the butt sleeve are more square (with skinny ones in between) on mine, as compared to the longer, more evenly spaced and rectangular blocks in the catalog scan. Is mine just a variation of the Seagull? Or a different model altogether?? The suspense mounts...

Minor variations like that are common in these cues. It's a Seagull.
