ABP and their 15 minutes of fame!!!!!!!!!!!!

hmmm

Why would you wish that on a person for expressing his opinion?
Its not like he said anything that hasn't been said before.
In fact, I think you should be banned for siding with the ABP.
You're obviously in the minority here.

Hog, it might be because not only is he a newbie, but he had to make it such a personal and insulting attack, using words like;

"candy asses", "jackasses" "they are a joke", "seeking 15 mins of fame" "acting like 5 year olds" and that "they are nothing without fans"

I mean, really !! This "newbie" probably has never been to a US Open, will probably never go to one and most likely never even watch one, but he is taking it as a personal insult where a bunch of pro players decide to sit this one out.

I'm still on the fence on the entire issue because one, it really does not affect me personally, and two, there are valid points on both sides.
Sometimes you gotta do what you feel is necessary, and Barry appears to be doing the same. Whatever the results, so be it. Hoepfully it all gets worked out, but I"m not gonna lose sleep either way.

I win a pro event. $10,000.
My expenses were $4,500. My normal monthly expenses are $2,500.

After all is said and done, I will make $3,000.

Not trying to bash, just trying to understand.........

How are your expenses for the US Open $4500 ? What's the breakdown ?

He can't be referring to the Open...first place is 40k for the Open.

Perhaps $4500 is the cost for a European who must fly, but brokestroke is from PA, pretty close to Norfolk. And the Euros who come usually make the US rounds, so it would be difficult to attach the cost to a single event...

Ok, so it don't matter to me if they seed or don't seed the top 32. I saw that a few people are saying that the pros will breeze throughthe first 3 rounds and that will get them in the money and that may happen. However just taking a look at the bca points list players outside the top 32 that couldbe drawn are peoplelike Jose Parica, Ronnie Wisemen, Efren, Busti, John Schmidt and many other names that I would not want to meet in any round and I am sure that the pros would not consider playing any of those guys a hanger. Just saying its not like if they seed that they are guarenteed to me people like me in the first round.

That was a waste of 2cents.

Your statement is just assenine. You would't want to win the lottery coz of the taxes either, right?

A players financial situation at home is not the tournament's responsibility.

IMO, Barry needs to make his payment schedule clear, though.

I was just trying to make the point that if I had $3000 owed to me and it took 6 months to collect it, that $3000 would have already been spend 2 times over.
The players financial situation at home is the players responsibility. If his main source of income is pool, then not being paid for an extended period of time hurts him.
Would you go to work and be fine with the fact that they hold your paycheck for 6 months? Im sure by the time you get it, unless you are pretty well off, your bank account would be hurting.

It was just a hypothetical situation.

I didnt really sit there and crunch numbers, and I wasnt talking about the Open.
I just thought about how much someone from across the country would pay if they had to drive to an event, a hotel stay and food along the way, hotel at the event for 5 days, and drive back.

Ok.........

Tell that employer if they don't have your pay at the end of the week, then you'll quit. Guess what they're gonna tell ya ???

And if you don't like the way that your job is paying you by making you wait six months for your paycheck, then you go and you find another job.

It's just like someone coming into my home and telling me how to run my party. If they don't like the way I do things at MY party, then I'll point them to the door.
The flip side of that is if I say, "Well, why don't you run the next party ?" and they decline, then I guess they have nothing to say at that point.

If a player doesn't like the way the TD pays out at his events, the answer's simple : don't play.

EDIT : Prior to going to Las Vegas to play in the Nationals, the mortgage, gas & electric, water, cable, credit card, and any other debt/bills I have are paid. As much as I enjoy going to Vegas, spending that money to play pool instead of using it to pay those bills is financial suicide. I sock money away during the year so that when the time comes, I have the money to go. If something comes up that I have to tap into that money, then I do it. No question.

Bottom line is that if those bills aren't paid beforehand, I don't go. Just like the majority of us 'non-pros'.

I normally just sit back and read the posts in these forums and do not get involved and or heated about many issues; but come on guys this is ridiculous.

I feel that the ABP is using the US Open as a stepping stone to get their names in the lights. This is their 15 minutes of fame, and they are going to do everything to soak it up. This organization is a joke! This is equivalent to a temper tantrum from a five year old.

I read so much about people wanting pool to get bigger and better, but in order to do so the players have to act accordingly too. If you want to have an organization that helps the players, then do that, but leave the fans out of the business decisions and or mishaps. It’s funny that these players talk about not getting paid on time, but we know that most of them make their money after the tournaments on side hustles, and the other games they play. Also the majority of these players are such pre-madonnas that they “order” the promoters to seed them or they will walk. So it has to be their way or the highway. I think seeding is a joke. They are such candy asses that they are scared to play another big wig because it may eliminate them early. Isn’t that what this is about; becoming victorious, claiming the title and winning the money. If you are truly that good, stop making demands, and chalk up your damn cue!

Anyway, the ABP needs not bite the hand that feeds them! You may get paid a little late, but you get paid….stop whining and thinking about no one but yourself and remember the fans that are the ones that truly pay you because without us you are nothing more than a guy down the street at the pool hall that can shoot well.

The US Open has been going on for 35+ years, regardless of payment history, Barry is doing something right, and most of you ABP jackasses made a name for yourselves through the blood sweat and tears of Behrman’s work. Stop stomping your feet and start playing pool for the fans again; this is ridiculous.
You are 100% correct. They need to ask themselves is it better to get a Check in the 8 months from now, or harpoon the best US tournament and 8 months from now their mail box will be empty. How many Pool players can afford to fly to other countries to play .Wake up players you are biting the only hand that feeds you and your fans are sick of these demands!
