ABP boycotts Berhman's event

Fortunately there are fans on here who we do love and respect in return. Thank you for your support, and coming to our aid, defense, and love.

And thank you to Tony Robles who has just called to have his name added to our list of not attending the US Open 9-Ball. Reyes, Varner, Bustamante, Immonen, Van Boening...We know more of our brothers will follow.

I happen to care a lot about the players but I think you're shooting yourself in the foot with this move. How can you expect Barry to post money he doesn't yet have? In the past he's fallen short but always made it good in time. I think he's also shooting himself in the foot by continuing to give the players all the extras like free entry for life when you win a tournament. And it's not free entry either because he puts in the entry! The jackets, the vests, the Champagne all the goodies he pays for out of his pocket could be the difference in having the money to pay everyone at the end of the tournament. If I were him I'd make every player pay his own entry and only add $25K then post the money like you ask. Also put $35K in his own pocket instead of giving it to the players who are boycotting him. In Rodney's interview he kept saying "All we ask is that someone guarantee the money will be there at the end of the tournament". Just who do you think owes you guys all that money for playing a game? Why should someone else guarantee the gate, the vendors intake, the money from possible TV rights? Do you guys think there's some rich benefactor out there who just wants to give you guys money because you can draw the rock? Fellows, welcome to the real world! There ain't no free rides! There are people who in good times can afford to be generous and treat the players like celebrities, but we're not in good times and you're pissing off the people who might be willing to be generous with all this petty bullshit! Rodney also mentioned all the things the pros were going to do to give back to the public, such as showing up early to tournaments and making themselves available for pro-am games and such. Well you should have thought about doing some of that before you started making demands. Show the public that you were worth supporting, not tell them what you might do if they give you everything you want! You guys have gone about this all the wrong way and while I certainly don't want to see the players ripped off by promoters, you act like the world owes you a living. Maybe you need to get a job and see how you like them apples!

Some people in the APB seem to be living in a fantasy land where they are giant stars like Peyton Manning or some such. They need to leave the poolroom for a few minutes and realize, that outside of the small circle they are total unknowns.

The reality is, that there are really only 5-10 player's worldwide who have the ability to bump a gate, or get a big number on PPV stream. That number might even be generous, and even the bump they give a promoter is measured in dozens not hundreds.

At some point, an entire generation of player's is going to need to take the hit for the game to thrive. They're going to need to go play and organize events that turn a profit, even a small one. If this means these player's play their whole career and end up broke, so be it. Johnny Unitas had to take the hit so Peyton could get the million dollar payouts.

I doubt this generation will step up, but maybe the next one will. Until this idea that a billionaire is going to come make pool players rich is put to bed, the industry is just going to keep treading water.

So APB, the answer is simple. You want total control over the promotion of the game, become the promoters of the game. Go study up what the Professional Bull Riders did. Learn the history, grassroots 101 get all the player's to put a small stake up for start-up costs and go do it. Start small, grow your revenue streams year by year, build the brand as best you can.

Otherwise, expect more of the same. I expect this is the choice you'll choose.

This is Putnam right now ! Anybody want to talk to Archer or myself before we go to bed ?

Who was on and made the statement I asked about above? How can it be a legit organization if your guys aren't willing to man up and take credit for their own statement?

The doctors are taking care of him !

Good. Now that is updated I can go back to my ornery self.

After the podcast reguarding the ABP I had some questions and posted them in a thread here....

I would appreciate answers to them.

Secondly, you should really moniter whom has acess to your group account, as someone is letting their ego get involved, and seriously turning people away from your cause.

Going overseas to more lucrative tournaments makes sense but it seems that economically player X would need to stay on the road in Europe for weeks to make it worth their while. If the ABP suggests that their members may play in more overseas tournaments for better paydays, then it's not going to win over a legion of fans as we have no international coverage of their results. I would love to get Matchroom Sports or Sky Sports to watch more billiards, but they are not offered through any local provider that I know about.

Playing overseas might be a viable solution for the ABP, but that move will further alienate the American fans as we will have no access to their exploits. I would find it harder to root for any of the players.

It occurs to me if the ABP leadership had been taken by surprise from the reaction here, just wait because they ain't seen nothing yet. With the top players out of the Open how good does Earl look for a top finish if not a win? And if that happens he could very likely wind up on the Mosconi Cup team.

The fan reaction from this is nothing compared to what it will be if JA and gang refuse to play for the U.S. team in the Cup. If they make it, that is. At least one of them has already lost some respect for expressing his dedication to playing for his country is conditional on if he personally approves of his team mates.

And then there's Mike Dechaine, another player not on the boycott list and the other guy who's been publically dragged over the coals lately.

The best laid plans...

JA is sound asleep. Doesn't take him long ! LOL
I can answer some of your questions but others are sensetive and I cant overstep MY boundrys. Hope you understand ?
Yes we have agreed to be a nonprofit organization.
Board seats will change in the future ! As per any good board I suspect.
Other answers will be made public in due time.

Shawn perhaps you can tell me which member of your organization wrote this:

I dont think Accu stats is considering Barry owes him money.
In fact, I think Mark Grifin negotiated a deal for TAR and for Diamond in the US Open 9. That is probably why JUstin and Mark have been so critical of the pros and ABP.
They have an agenda and this obviosuly affects them. We dont blame them for trying.

I went into the factual errors in this anonymous post in the original thread so I won't do it here but everyone knows who I am here I think it only fair the people using your groups name take personal responsibility for their posts unless this type of factually inaccurate personal attack is something the ABP sanctions.

I await your response.

I personally do not play overseas. The cost to go to one of those tournaments is crazy. Food sucks too from my experience.

A word of caution. The Goverment does not take kindly to improperly documented "donations" entering and leaving the US.

I support some of your ideals, but not the way of execution. If you would like some free advice about this have your treasurer PM me and I will be glad to give some hints.

On a totally unrelated note, how are your members sponsers gonna take it when they dont show up to one of the largest tourneys in the nation? There are rammifactions of this boycot that are far reaching.

if you are talking about asia, the food is actually some of the most delicious AND healthy in the world. especially japanese food, they are one of the cleanest cultures i have ever come across. i highly recommend having an openm mind if you go again, and hopefully have a local guide (ie player) with you to show you stuff you may like. but im with you on the cost :)

good luck with all
