Ok all,
Truthfully i am sick and tired of ABP/ Barry Behrman story, we are trying to clean pool image so ESPN and other big networks broadcast pool on large scale so promoters keep coming back and their product sells. I am not a pro player but been around enough, and heard enough. For the US Open to happen Barry Behrman must establish an official trusted escrow account so players can trust that they will be paid, i bet he would not play for big money without posting! I need Efren The Magician and Archer the Scorpion, and all top players in this tourney other wise i will be reluctant to watch it on TV or go in person, and i believe my opinion is shared by many, at least the many people i talked to.

Jan, sorry to step on your toe, but i had enough.

Thanks

Escrow sounds great. But where is the money to escrow going to come from???

Exactly. I have been following this since it first broke on these pages and since it is now very obvious that the money is not generated until the week of the event it is just stupid to think it can be put up in advance.

I do carpentry. I have to buy the materials and the tools, pay my helpers, and then (about 10% of the time) wait sometimes six months to get paid. I don't like it, but I don't throw a tantrum either. I just keep sending those invoices. And choose whether to work for the slow payers again or not.

It sounds like the players have to gut up and do the same thing. Don't they have like ten events a year to play in? And one of them takes a few months to pay them? Big deal, guys. That's business. Grow up.

It is amazing to me that Mike Zuglan's $25,000 Joss Tour Turning Stone tournaments fill up long before the commencement, and there is actually a waiting list.

Same holds true with Allen Hopkins' Pro Tournament at the Super Billiards Expo each year. It fills up ahead of time, and again, there is a waiting list.

I'm not sure why this can't be done with the U.S. Open. Maybe it is because the field is so much larger, but if there was a cutoff time -- and I mean a strict cutoff time -- to get the entry fees in, this may help the tournament budget as a whole.

It is so true that people wait until the day of the event to pay up. I see this quite often. If the trend could change, this might really help the U.S. Open continue to flourish and alleviate a lot of the difficulties from the past.

Carpentry and pool are two totally different businesses. It's hard to be a world class carpenter and starve.

A real job is really different, you are forced to wait so you complete you job at first, then 30 days term, 60, or 90 at which you have rights to go to court. A tournament, where people have to fly from all over the world have to be solid, and payout is 100% guaranteed, with Barry's name tarnished i see the only out is escrow, with trusted agency. If players want to play, they can afford the entry fee a head of time, and i am sure all top players have backers anyway so entry fee in advance should not be a problem. If by the dead line no one came cancel, sorry it sounds harsh, but players want the sure thing.

I guess you haven't checked out the construction business lately. If pool players are making less than me they should go be greeters at Walmart.

You're telling the guys that have put in 1000's of hours to eventually perform in front of your eyes that they should get a job greeting strangers for 8$ hr? Do you know the percentage of people that dream of being a champion? And the process of becoming one?....Guys lose everything in pursuit of attaining the ability to play great. Some places it's 12hr for table time. I hope the numbers are sinking in.

Jan it is, JAM sorry.

LOL! I still don't understand who you mean, Jan or JAM.

Example A. Jan, it is. JAM, sorry.
Example B. Jan it is, JAM. Sorry.
Example C. Jan, it is JAM. Sorry.

Pick a letter. :D

Yes, I am telling you they should go get a job. Irving Crane had a job, Mosconi had a job, Greenleaf had a job, Caras had a job, Hopkins has a job, Mizerak had a job, and on and on. All the ones who did not die broke had a job. Pool is not a profession, it is an avocation. It is not something you do to earn a living. And wishing and hoping won't make it so. Do the math. The numbers just are not there. And players need to be able to realize that and go get a job.

I thought we're trying to change all that.

If you were so sick of the ABP/BB drama....Why the hell did you start this thread?

Where is the money in Escrow supposed to come from? The 50k added to make it a WPA points event is something done for the players, as are the Free entries for past champions. Are you also forgitting he dropped a hundred off the entry fee if you payed by May First? Your acting like these guys are walking away empty handed. Hell Half of them dont even pay to get in, between free entries and sponsors/backers and it is ONLY the TOP 4 players that didnt get paid in full....

To quote one of my heros

Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn

You won't watch? So what? If you planned on attending the US Open for the entire week that is one thing....but your post leads me to belive that you will be sitting on your ass eating bonbons and watching it via TV or Computer....your refusal to watch does not change anything. The game will go on with out you. Just as it will go on without the boycotting players.

I swear to god, some of yall whine and cry about more things that dont concern you....Some of yall are worse than Marine Wives....and thats saying something. Now if you excuse me...I'm going back to my vicodin and Yo Gabba Gabba (my daughter loves that show)

PS. Yes the US Open discussions directly impact me...as I have already paid to play in this year's Open.

It's a sport. It should be an olympic sport. Champions of a sport shouldn't be cooking poormen meals.

Where do you get the 50k to put in escrow? You do what a lot of Business people do ,you borrow it . After all if Barry is "sure the money will be coming in a few weeks or a month after the tournament" what is the risk?? A business like Q master's 20 plus years old with 30 to 40 tables 30 plus employee's full service kitchen, should be able to swing that. Sounds good rack em up.
