ABP Past Attempts to Work w/Barry Behrman

Contrary to what some people are saying, the first official ABP meeting with Barry Berman was in May 2010 in Las Vegas with Johnny Archer, Thorsten Hohmann and Stevie Moore.
Barry made absolute assurances that the money would be paid on time and no one would leave being owed anything. The players requested for the added money and entries to be put up ahead of time. Behrman said it would be too difficult. So the players decided to support him even without putting money in escrow or a 3rd party. Despite a full 256 player field, a top gate, and many sponsors, the players were still not paid in full including the champion Darren Appleton.
Still the ABP players supported him and gave him another chance at the Masters. Behrman advertised this event as $35,000 added and later reduced it to $30,000 the week before, and then reduced it again on the first day of the event. Each time without notifying the players or acknowledging that he once again broke his word.
The players were again paid late. Mika Immonen the champion is still owed $10,000 to this day, more than 3 months later.

During all this time there have several meetings, phone calls, emails with Barry. On one occassion when Barry was notified that if players were not going to be paid that there had to be consequences Behrman left a message on Archer's phone that cannot be repeated due to its vulgarity. In another attempt by Archer, Barry hung up the phone on him. Shawn Putnam volunteered to call him at another time and Behrman hung up on him too. In an email from Behrman sent to Archer, the email disgracefully insulted Archer with swear words.

To sum, ABP has been trying to work with Barry Behrman for 14 months on issues with the US Open and already gave him two more chances (not counting times even before 2010) at his 2010 US Open and 2011 Masters where he not only broke his promises, but also refused to listen or work with Archer and the ABP professionals.

This has not been a hasty decision, but one that has been long discussed and worked on for over a year.

Permanent damage could be an effect of this kind of "news" release, for lack of a better word. It's kind of like there's three sides to the story: the ABP, Barry Behrman's, and the truth.

This will flame into a roaring fire on AzBilliards by tomorrow, and in the end, nobody will win. Each side will be the loser. It is really quite sad. :frown:

I understand why the ABP is making their united stand, but I also think Barry Behrman may have appreciated handling "business" such as this between the necessary parties to effect a change for the better in a different arena, not on this public forum for all the keyboard cowboys and cowgirls to reply to. Airing dirty laundry, he-said/she-said indications never produces good results.

Good luck to all, and to all, a good night!

Are there plans for the ABP to start it's own tour?

Is Mika the only one who hasn't been paid?

This is from Barry's post--

There is not 1 single person that didn't get paid in 2010, or in the history of the U.S. Open.

Is this statement above a lie or a half truth and Mika not being paid in full?

What would it take for the ABP members to play in the US Open at this point?

My only question is who is ABPpro's, I always think it is nice to know who is providing information.

Thanks

Well, good luck getting that answer, Manwon. Everybody has been asking the same thing, and they never reply. It's almost ilke ABPpros is a forum bot. It appears every few hours and provides a copy-and-paste, never responding. It's quite mechanical, I tell you! :D

JohnnyBot, MikaBot, RodneyBot? ...or maybe CharlieBot?

Emails and voicemails are easy to keep, get a hosting site and put it up so we can hear the story.

Also, I know you say Barry was yelling and saying things which can't be repeated due to it's vulgarity, but cmon are you serious? Pool players have some of the foulest and most crass mouths around, we've heard everything. Lastly, did Johnny get hot or bitter with Barry? Usually yelling has 2 sides to it, so Barry says Johnny isn't NOW returning calls, you're saying you guys tried in May 2010.

I know I'd rather play and know that the money is coming than not play and let another year go by.

Also, it wont matter if the ABP players don't show up. The field will fill up and it will still offer points towards mosconi. Let them not show up, there are plenty of great players not listed there who will show up and have a us open title to their name.

So where do you start and where do you make an announcement such as this if not the largest, most interactive all things billiards website known to man????

It is clearly stated this has been going on for at least 14 months at this point. It also clearly states the release was made in advance so a solution may be found before it's too late. I'm not upholding any party here but if they have drawn a line in the sand before and had to cross it themselves anyway giving Barry the benefit of the doubt then I'm sure this is an attention getter to show the seriousness of the ABP.....

Well in my opinion an unidentified person who is passing information of this nature can not be taken seriously, at least by me. In addition I do not care who may come forward and say this source of information is credible I will still not believe a word this poster has said and I will also doubt the credibility of that individual.

Some may say why do you take this stance on this subject, and my answer to them is very simple there should be only one voice that makes public announcements for the ABP and that is the President of this organization MR. Archer.

Now if this does happen to be MR. Archer who is posting under this user name with all due respect Johnny what the hell are you afraid of not to use your real name?

Now if it turns out not to be MR. Archer my response would have to go something like this. Johnny why the hell do you have some unknown voice representing your organization?

I really mean no disrespect to anyone for my comments above but please understand, at least from my perspective I would like to hear some accurate information from a credible source like MR Archer himself.

Manwon makes an excellent point in my opinion. My name is Lee Baldwin of Bremerton, Wa for the record.

jason...The Masters was played in 2011 that Mika won, so Barry may be telling the truth about 2010. There were rumors of others who haven't been paid, but nobody has stepped forward...yet.

Well Johnny and Mika and Rodney as well as many others get free entry into US Open so if there is one this year they will show up even if they eat some crow from this thread.--Leonard

I remember when Shane won the us open at a young age and how Danny D commented about how many free rides he would get.

Shane would have to be disgusted if the us open were to dissolve.

The US Open is the hardest tournament to win in my opinion. It also happens to be the hardest tournament to get paid after you win. The ABP is trying to fix the second part and it sounds as though they have been trying in one form or another for some time. I hope that the ABP pros will end up playing as the event will not be the same without them. Pool is in a bad state in the USA right now and maybe it will take something like this to help move things forward. If the players truly stick together through something like this then that is indeed a step in the right direction.

Good luck to all.
