...Was in Springfield, IL about 300 ft from his law office.
There is now a historical marker and signage:

The hall was opened in 1860 by Emanuel Brunswick, a brother-in-law of John Brunswick, John being the founder of the Brunswick Corp we know today.

However, Emanuel didn't work for John. Emanuel had decided to do his own thing, and actually competed with his step brother by creating his own billiard table company. There were two " Brunswick " companies for almost 25 years, producing a bitter rivalry not unlike the Hatfield and McCoy debacle, which escalated to the point of physically spying on each other, browbeating each other's customers, and the flinging of frivolous lawsuits.

It was almost humorous, the "on again off again " relationship of the Brunswick clan, and it probably would have continued for many more years if Emanuel had not died when he did.

You can read more about Emanuel, his struggle with the Brunswicks, and his tragic death here :

I understand a revolver, a ruler and 46 bucks in the possession of a respectable table builder, the cuffs have me thinking, more, of what I'm over looking in my table build.

I think that you're thinking of the wrong kinds of cuffs, don't you think?
