Im fixing to purchase some more tapes does anyone know any great matches like earl strickland vs corey deuel 11-10 great match

any suggestions

The best of the best is the Stickland vs Reyes double hill match from the Sands Regency, in which Efren makes what many feel was the greatest shot of his career to secure the win.

Buddy Hall vs Steve Dobrowolski in one pocket, also from the mid-90's includes a player review and is an excellent tape.

I'm contemplating purchasing this legendary match: Strickland vs. Reyes in Hongkong:
http://www.accu-stats.com/Qstore/Qs...3068&BACK=A0008A1B01013634625B1C01013634849C1

Only $260 for many hours of brilliant play.

Oh, let's add the three cushion tape of Sang Lee vs Lou Havermans, in which the late Sang Lee featured some of the best billiards he ever played. It's a thing of beauty.

I am too thinking of buying the color of money match. It is a bit expensive but I bet its worth it. SJM can you give some good details on the race to 120 like how many racks can you remember being strung together. Did earl be "earl" by showing his butt. And was the commentary good. I really dont like mark wilsons commentary style that much but I can live with it.

> The race to 120 is worth double it's weight in Szamboti! Oddly enough, people only buy and watch the last few tapes, because that is where Efren steals the match. This is totally incorrect. The only way a true fan watches this match is the way I did when I first got it,about a week after it became public. You start with the first tape, and watch the ENTIRE match from beginning to end,it only takes about 12 hours. As strong as breaking and running out 30 out of 36 racks at the end of a set and doing so while being faced with a 17 game deficit is,imagine the gear it took to get that guy 17 games stuck. The first tape of the match shows Earl open with a 5 pack, gives Efren a really tough kick, takes ball in hand and finishes that rack, and puts another 5 pack behind that,no combo's,just incredible aggression and authority from Earl. I have about 40 tapes from Pat,and lost another 80 in a house fire, and probably borrowed 50 other than those I either watched 10 times and returned or copied. I've seen a large part of their inventory up until 2004,and there are about 15 others that offer something really special. I still have yet to see that Sands match, but will order it ASAP.

> Davenport vs. Strickland, 2 out of 3 races to 9 Sands final. Davenport wins the match, but spots in this match make you think Earl could spot Kim.

> Rempe vs. Archer, another 2 out of 3 set final,Archer wins his first major big table tournament, the rest is history.

> Both of the Sigel 150-outs,Mizerak 137-out from the same U.S. Open 14.1 that Sigel runs the perfect 150,the Archer 150-out,and the Zuglan 148.

> Strickland vs. Archer,Sands race to 13 winners bracket Final,hill-hill,incredible speed from both players.

> Sigel vs. Varner,hill-hill race to 11 from the U.S. Open 9-ball,Nick comes back from 9-2 and corner-hooked.

> Sigel vs. Davenport,Bicycle Club final,Sigel breaks a dismal slump and lays down a nearly perfect set.

> Steve Cook vs. Allen Hopkins,One-Pocket,Steve Cook moves 6 balls out of Allen's pocket and almost corner-hooks him.

> Steve Cook vs. Jose Parica,Cook wins a race to 5 and allowed Jose just 6 balls the whole match. According to Grady, this is the best display of One-Pocket dominance ever caught on tape.

> Grady vs. Efren, race to 4 One-Pocket gambling match,if you call Pat and ask him for it,ask for the "after hours" Grady Vs. Efren match. It's only one camera, and no commentary, but the room is miked, and you can hear all kinds of stuff including Efren and Grady bantering. At the end of the match,Efren goes through his usual warm-up and runs full racks of roatation, including almost 4 in a row.

> Strickland vs. Reyes, very early in Accu-Stats history match from The Tara Open in like 1988,neither player fails to run out until the match is around 12-12 in a race to 15. One of Efren's kicks in this match is on the first highlight tape.

> There are about 10 others I can list here, such as the other stuff like Sayginer's Artistic Billiards,or the tape with 3 different Massey exhibitions on it,but these are the ones that stand out most. Tommy D.

I assume all of these matches are prior to 2003?

Unless I'm looking horribly in the wrong place on Accu-Stats.com, they only seem to have 2003-2005 stuff in DVD format.

> All the ones I listed are early-mid 90's,some of them may not even be available any more, even in VHS,but who knows. Tommy D.

I would love to buy some of this stuff but I simply REFUSE to buy anything on VHS! The last VHS recorder I owned was in 1999, even sony has stopped making them!

I keep asking this question but when is accu stats going to convert its collection into DVD, its really not that difficult to do! :(

I'm sure I'm not alone and if they did this they would probably reduce costs long teer and sell a lot more product. Can somebody please drag accustats kicking and screaming into the 21st century? :D

Lots of great matches already listed here. The Varner/Sigel 11-10 match is probably my favorite out of those. I know this thread is about nineball matches, but I had to throw some more one pocket tapes in here as Accustats has some real classics in their vault.

here are some more recommendations:

Stalev def C. Williams 7-6. Both players shoot like .918/.917 or something like that.

Daulton def Mizerak 5-4 finals Legends of One pocket (maybe 92?). Supposedly the two players also bet $5k on this match. Miz is on the hill (i think 4-2 or 4-3) with his game ball in front of his pocket and Daulton rips a long rail bank back at warp speed, pulling whitey back and over to run 4 or 5 and out, and then wins the next few games to win the tournament and the cash.

Cook def Miz 5-2 finals Legends of One Pocket ( i think 1991). Steve Cook in high gear...nuff said.

Efren def Gabe Owen 2005 US Open. Efren shoots .941 and Gabe shoots .921. Owen never misses a ball and still loses 11-8.

1998 Legends of One Pocket Daulton def Efren 4-3. Semifinal match with both players just playing jamup one pocket.

Just a crazy question ....

Does Blockbuster ever get any Pool tapes in of matches? Sure would be nice to just go rent some match tapes.

Get your VCR ready.
ESPN Classic is showing the 1994 US Open Final today.
ESPN's version not the crappy Accu Stats camera back then.
I wished I taped all ESPN and Prime Ticket pool matches back in the days but who knew they'd be collectible?
OK, we had a Betamax back when Mosconi-Fats matches on WWO Sports with Cossell too.

Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some Accu-stat matches on DVD? I'm sort of anti-vhs, and finding matches other than catching it on tivo is incredibly hard.

Are those older ESPN matches long races with decent commentary?

Seems like I remember them being races to 7 or 9 and having complete morons doing the commentary. Another pet peeve I always have with those TV matches is that a player can execute a very tough runout with an amazing position play shot on the seven, but what do they show on replay? A straight in 3 ft nineball shot in slow motion of course. Like I need to see that shot over again from three different angles...

There are some tape recommendations in the back of Phil Cappelle's "Play Your Best Nine Ball"

He includes the 96 Archer/Reyes 11-10 match from the Sands which is a great match. They had another 11-10 match in 2000 which is worth watching.

Any player review match is also a good one to buy; nothing like having the actual player doing the commentary. Parica, Archer, Miz, Jose Garcia all do PR tapes that are great instructionals.

UWATE: Daulton def Mizerak 5-4 finals Legends of One pocket (maybe 92?).

This is the first I've heard of the side bet. At the end of the tape, Miz and Shannon say some things to the crowd that I can't make out. Almost seems like they were jawing at each other. Anyone know what they were saying?

Hey Uwate, did you win the 92 ACU-1 championship? I was looking at the BCA rulebook and noticed a David Uwate (Univ of Florida) won that year.

yep thats me. I was in law school at the time but I was really working on my PHd (pool hall diploma).

Nice job in 92, David!

Hopefully there aren't any quail in FL because Cheney is on the loose and blasting lawyers at will...I bet your office is having a ball with the VP :)

One good thing about VHS is that they are actually more durable than DVD. Occasionally a VCR will eat a tape, but they can take a lot more abuse than a dvd. One bad scratch and the dvd is junk.

Thanks! Yeah I was pretty stoked to win, especially since I lost my first match and went all the way through the losers bracket with a win in the finals 7-6.

Bud...you still trading dvds? PM me....
