Share with everyone your favorite pool match that you own or have seen on tape.I'll start.
Hands down, the best match I own is the 91 Sands Regency semi finals 9-ball match between Johnny Archer and Jim Rempe. They are both playing lights out and Johnny is breaking unbelievably!! Match goes to the hill.Very entertaining and the bonus is that Buddy is commentating with.....get this,KEITH!!! You want to talk about amusing. The tape is worth the price because of that fact alone:D

I only own around 20 tapes so...not too many to choose from. My top 3 favorites are:

#1 - 2000 14.1 U.S. Open - Rempe v Ortmann - Some of the best straight you'll see on tape. Ortmann runs 129 and Rempe run 96. Very close to getting two century runs on the same tape. Both guys play just amazing!

#2 - 23rd Sands Regency - Johnny Archer (11) v Efren Reyes (10) - An exciting hill-hill match. The final match is worth the price of the tape alone!

#3 - 2001 World Cup 3-Cushion - Raymond Cuelmans v Sang Chun Lee - Even though both of these masters are past their prime on this tape, it's great history being able to watch both of them compete against each other.

Is the Archer match you have the one where Earl and Rudolpho are playing on the table adjacent and the camera keeps going back and forth at the end of the match?

Shannon the Cannon vs the Magician Efren Reyes ...The mighty Shannon comes back from the depths of doom..geting out from everywhere to steal the set from the magician...Some damn fine one-pocket..but what else do you expect....

VERY Entertaining... imo

Shannon Daulton vs. The "Miz" at one-pocket (maybe '94, I can't look it up right now). Shannon fired a shot so hard, that they weren't sure what had happened.... LOL

Doug
( it's those 'young eyes' they decided )

Edited to include:
I looked up this great match and it was 1P3-07 "The Legends of One Pocker III" held in Columbia,SC. in January 1992
Shannon Daulton defeated Steve Mizerak 5-4, where it came down to the final ball in the final game, with each player having a few shots at their winner and Shannon won. I believe that he was the youngest winner ever. Does anyone know how old Shannon was in Jan. 1992 ?

I don't think so, but it could be. I think they pan back and forth to a match with Varner. I could be getting my panning mixed up (since they do it on every tape).

Jim

The Archer/Rempe match is definitely one of the best. Another one that is pretty good is the Sigel/ C.J. Wiley match. This match also goes double hill and Sigel shoots at the 2 ball I think and slops the 9 in. He's walking around the table smiling and Wiley is fuming mad as hell....its kinda funny.

Southpaw

It Was 9 Ball

Somone refresh my memory, but wasn't there one match where Grady beat Buddy Hall something like 11-0 ?

Doug
( I've been using that greasy kid stuff in my hair and my memory is slipping )

My personal favorite is Jim Rempe vs. Mika Immonen at the 1998 U.S. Open. Both players are nearly flawless, and Mika comes from far behind to win at hill-hill with a long bank shot on the nine that uses every millimeter of the pocket (and a slight table roll) to make the ball! It was an absolute heartbreaker for Rempe, and I think it may have been a definitive moment in Mika's then budding career.

This is an amazing tape. When Rempe comes back to the table after Ortmanns run, he gets a number of bad rolls and has to make a bank, and then a really long shot off the rail, and he grinds and grinds, makes two or three unbelievable break shots and gets out of line on his last one. He plays safe, Ortmann plays safe and scratches, Rempe finds a dead ball, shoots it, but the cueball hits the one which stops the dead 8 from going in the pocket. A really tough loss for Jim Rempe after coming back and needing only 6 balls to win.

that is by far the best match and commentary i have ever seen. Remember when Keith thinks he touches the ball with his hand and says in his drawl " my eyes don't lie" it is priceless

The Ortmann v. Rempe tape as far as the poolplaying goes is fantastic. Also, I'm going to have to say that another one of my favorites is a match between Rempe and Hopkins in the 1992 U.S. Open Straight Pool. Commentary by Grady and Jack Colavita is insightful, and Rempe makes a fantastic comeback. Maybe I'm just a big Jim Rempe fan.

IIRC they used to have Grady's 11-0 win over Buddy in their collection. I'm not sure if they still do.

My all-time favorite is a tape of Earl vs. Efren in the finals of the Tara Open in Atlanta, Georgia, from April of 1988. Incredible display of run-out pool and tremendous kicks and safeties by both players that goes hill-hill in a race to 15 with a great come-from-behind victory. Vintage Earl and Efren with both at the top of their game.

Definitely one of the best of all time is from the first Matchroom Sports WPA World 9-ball Championship.

Efren Reyes plays Francisco Bustamante. Up 3-1, Busta scratches on the break. Efren runs out, and then proceeds to break and run EIGHT additional racks. The next time Busta is at the table, he's down 10-3.

The best thing about these run outs is that they were TOUGH. The balls weren't spreading well, yet Effie was getting out regardless -- whether he had to nail a table length bank or navigate through traffic like a bike messenger in NYC. It's great.

OK come to think of it, this may not be an Accu-Stats tape. Sorry!

Something else I find very amusing is the way Billy and Grady go at each others throats when they are commentating together.....priceless
