In their 2006 catalogue they advertise "Irving Crane vs Joe Balsis-Irving Crane's Historic 150 Ball Run at the 1966 US Open"

The problem is that I can't seem to find it anywhere on their website.

If anybody knows where it is, or if it actually is available please let me know. I want to get this and maybe a 3 cushion dvd.

Cameron...

From the home page type in 'Balsis' (no quotes) in the search bar.

It will take you right to the page of the Balsis-Crane match.

AS-CBD $24.95 DVD

Hope this helps.

I have the VHS, called Clash of the Titans. It is an amazing run, as he pulls a couple of shots out of the pack, especially the one that starts the run, which looks like a wraparound shot.

Only problem is the audio is pretty bad, I wonder if they have re-mastered it for the DVD.

I don't want to knock anyone's sales, but I bought it on ebay for $14.95 and that included shipping.

Thanks guys.

I'll order this once I get my new credit card. I was thinking Crane-Balsis, A three cushion match and a 1 pocket match. I haven't decided which matches for the last two. Either way it will make for a great veg out day of pool :D.

The Crane-Balsis match shows you how a good announcer can really make the program exciting. The 1966 taping was primitive by today's standards with improved equipment; but the run by Crane, and the play by play keeps you on the edge of your seat. The 150-and-out run itself is phenomenal, and to this day I can't figure out Crane's trick shot to start his string.

Gulfport,

You are so RIGHT! That commentary really stands out in my mind. I watched the tape about 6 months ago.

I was fortunate enough to see Crane play, and he was a phenomenal shotmaker, maybe the best there was in 14.1. And he was a class act all the way, unlike some other so called "Champions".

Irving was no slouch at 9-Ball either, beating many of the young guns at Johnson City, when he was already in his 50's.

The commentator was Whispering Joe Wilson. He's featured in one of Bert Kinister's old tapes:

Whispering Joe Wilson describes the action on this early attempt at color from television in the early 1950's, The game is called 10-20. 10-20 is a variation of straight pool broken down into 10 frames with no more than 20 points being scored in a frame. The players are Irvins "The Deacon" Crane vs. "Cowboy" Jimmy Moore. Jimmy Moore vs. Joe Procita. Joe Diehl vs Don Tozer. Jimmy Moore vs Charlie'Cachapaglia. This is as close as you can get to watching straight pool from the dawn of television.

Hello everyone, first post here.

I have the Crane-Balsis tape, and Crane's run is phenomenal. He did have a lapse in concentration in one of the last racks and almost scratched in the side.

Crane may well have been a great shotmaker, but he was also known as one of the very best defensive players of all time.

Crane was a GREAT defensive player! During a world tourney in Los Angeles back in the 70's, Irving was playing on one table and Ronnie Allen was playing on the table next to Cranes. Ronnie was known as the player who went for anything and usually made it. Within about 2 minutes of play...Crane went for a spectacular cue ball off the rack to make a ball near a pocket and Ronnie on the other table played a "Safety". A spectator near the tables, stood up and yelled out, " I have seen it all...Crane went for a shot and Ronnie played a safety. It's time for me to retire from pool."
