It's my first time here and I gotta say I'm pushing my team to change to bca next year. Not a very big event. Only about 120 tables. We're playing with the valley ball. A little heavier but no big but the valley tables have cheap mercury cloth and more rolls then a bakery lol only a few vendors there... Most of them I've seen at the Billiards expo. All the stories I hear about the bca nationals makes me think this will be a one and done event for me.
On the bright side I've met a lot of nice people from all over and that is what this event is about to me. I love competing against people from around the country

This year it was moved to the tropicana. The trop is always nice. Plenty of great places with in walking distance. The tournament itself isn't poorly run just small and from what I understand it seems to get smaller. Apa bca and tap seem to be the top of the league mountain right now and climbing.

We attended the ACS at the Tropicana in 2012. It was a good event, but the tables were terrible. We decided that was our last trip.

John Lewis is a great guy, but John is only one man. The gentleman, with his 6 inch level just wasn't able to get the Pool Table Leveling job done. I see the mechanic doing the same thing or sorta the same thing on Diamond Tables, but the job seems to get done.

I just came back from the ACS tournament and I agree to a degree. I love the Tropicana it is a far superior hotel to the Rio, the time of year and it is well organized, sadly however the equipment was pretty bad. If they switched to Diamond tables, good cloth, quality balls and proper bridges it would in my opinion become far more popular and start to draw larger fields.

All that being said, although I had a horror story of a tournament, I still had a nice time.

Any vendors and is Joe Blackburn there? I am thinking of getting a leather wrap put on my cue. When does the event end?

Must have attended a different event than trob. Thought the event was well run. As ACS is roughly one quarter the size of the BCAPL, they had roughly one quarter the players. Gary Benson and his staff did a nice job running the event AND setting up the tables. Yes, the stupid cue ball had me talking to myself a few times during the 9 ball. I attributed most of the "rolls" to the cue ball not the table surface. During the 8 ball, had better control. Remember, this is a bar room bar box event.

Didn't do quite as well as last year. Still did the best I could and got my investment back although without any profit (damn). Advanced (Masters) 8 ball had double the players (32) from last year. Several top line players like Walter Glass, Shane Manaole and Tony Sulsar joined Dustin Gunia, Marc Vidal and Colin Maloney in the field. Happy finishing 7/8. OK, I'm lying. Could have done better. Perhaps should have done better. Maybe next year!

John,

No Joe. Frankie Tran is doing shafts, etc. in the Omega booth. There are three shirt companies, four cue vendors and someone selling vapor sticks (???). The show ends Friday night.

Well, anybody?

well hell, yáll are across the street from us @ Mandalay!
come on over & get some furniture!
show ends in....50minutes!
wish i'd know there was something POOL RELATED going on!
shoot well & don't sweat the 100 degrees tomorrow - last year we broke a record @ 105 degrees.

It sounds like we agree lol. I said in my 2nd post it was a well run event. Very smooth. The computer system was great. And yes that damn heavy q ball had me talking to myself also. Lol but if your good player you make the adjustment and I ran to many racks to say I didn't play well with it. If this was a closer event I would come again but being from pa I won't travel this far for again I think. I did have a great time! But I could be playing pool in the middle of a Siberian wasteland and have a good time haha. The rio must blow lol we went to the MGM or ny ny to eat. The restaurant selection was TERRIBLE at the trop. Generally I love the trop. Stay at the one in ac once a summer but actually the one in ac is better and you can't say that often when comparing ac to Vegas. Wish I knew you were there though! Would have been nice to put a face with an azer.

Btw we finished 13th through 18th (I think that's what it was lol) in the team. We sat for an hour waiting late last night and lost steam :(

Boy, what an understatement!!! Only place in Vegas without a buffet. The ice cream vendor was gone. The Starbucks near the tournament had the weakest selection I've ever seen for that franchise. Thankfully I live in Vegas part time. Went to local restaurants for dinner most days. Had breakfast at Boulder Station several times before playing. For $5.99 it may be the best value in Vegas! Trop needs to work on the food variety. Those two restaurants in the walkway between the front and rear were out of sight pricewise. One was voted best steakhouse on the strip. By who? Anyway, we'll get to meet another day. I'll be at the BCAPL's and Super Billiards Expo next year. Just look for the really old guy with the dark glasses and tapper.

It's the exact opposite in ac lol they have a ton of restaraunt from cheap places to high end steak houses and posh burger places , pf changs , great sports bar , Irish pub , hooters, there adding a hard shell crab place (forget the name) shopping , IMAX and a big buffet. I was stunned at how weak the trop was. We stayed at the Excalibur and they had a great selection but the casino itself is weak.

It all depends on what kind of level the table mechanic is using. At approximately 9 inches long each, a machinist's level and a torpedo level are both very small. However, a machinist's level is accurate within a couple thousandths of an inch. While a torpedo level is accurate enough to make sure your picture doesn't slide off your shelf.

Also, there is a world of difference between a Valley table and a Diamond table. A Valley table is a yellow school bus, and a Diamond table is a Cadillac. Both will get you to school, but one is far smoother and nicer.

Fast Manners...Hell will freeze over before the ACS get's Diamond tables. You can take that to the bank. LOL :D

I have been saying this for years, all the leagues ACS/BCA/APA all hold their National events at the wrong Vegas Hotel/Casino.......

A note to all Leagues have your National event at:

"The Orleans" Hotel & Casino

1. Big Convention area
2. Fun Mardi Gras atmosphere in the casino
3. Beautiful Bar/Lounge with live entertainment
4. Movie Theater
5. Bowling Alley
6. Good shows in the showroom with tickets around $40
7. Awesome Poker Room with 20 or more tables
8. Well priced food options, with a Food Court (Panda, Sabarro, etc......) Fuddruckers, TGIF, Big Al's Oyster bar, Coasta Cantina, and Higher End dinning like, The Prime Rib Loft, Canal Street (Something for every budget & taste buds)

IMHO "The Orleans" Hotel & Casino is by far the best fit for the leagues National Pool Tournaments. It has a fun atmosphere, there are things to do outside of gambling, This hotel/casino offers a good time on every budget which is something that is lost on these league owners.

You decide http://www.orleanscasino.com/

PS: I have not vested interest in "The Orleans" hotel & casino above is only my personal opinion

Gee Scott, do you have inside info????   :rotflmao1:

It appears too few members here recognize the reason APA, VNEA, and ACS do not hold their Nationals on Diamonds is who is a partner in Diamond and what other National sanctioning body he owns. Incidentally I stopped by to see him Tuesday. He's got that inpish grin back! Glad to see him in better health.

Look forward to seeing you in July at the BCAPL's.
