I'm back home. I'm exhausted. I've got a lot to say, but no energy to type.

The 9-ball players had started to roll in. The scene and theme started to change. Before the 20th, hardly anyone was matching up at 9-ball. Now, more and more side action included the higher pace game.

I met and spent a little time with Sarah Rousey. Wonderful young woman with a long row to hoe. Peppy and bubbly, this girl will ram the balls right up your pooper if you take her lightly. She also has a lot of great ideas for pool that she needs to voice out. She needs to get past her initial shyness. She needs to get a tattoo. That always helps people get over shyness.

From the action standpoint, I can't remember what story has been told and not told. There was an ongoing 10-ball ring game, paying the 10 only. At any time, there were three or four players with the money ball climbing in worth upwards to 800 jelly beans. At first, no world beaters were in the game which may have consisted of Lil John, Sparky, Branden Ashcroft among others. Cliff Joyner and his backer entered the mix and quickly became the front runner. Branden dropped, and John Schmidt joined the action. Sparky dropped after Schmidt started to get on a roll. Then Joyner's backer cut bait, and Joyner called it a night about 7000 winner, much to the chagrin of the others involved.

And then there were two: Schmidt and Lil John. John had been a big winner for most of the week, but this ring game with the addition of world class players was quickly eating away at his bankroll. The two temporarily quit as they were trying to get a third in the action. Enter Marco Marquez, who his backer woke up out of a slumber we guess. They reflipped for the order, even though Schmidt should have been breaking. No matter, the flip ended up keeping the same order, but with Marquez breaking. Marquez dogged two balls early, prompting murmurs from the crowd about bringing in the right guy. But, he soon turned it around by breaking big and seemingly always getting a shot on the one ball. He also was following the right player in Lil John.

Marquez should be on anyone's list of world-class 10-ball players as he is on the one-hole elite list. Marquez broke the ring about ten games into his arrival, winning 6 or 7 at 600/game. Lil John unscrewed leaving two warriors without a ring to play.

Schmidt wanted to continue some heads up, but Marquez decided that he no longer had the nutz. 5:00 AM. Time for some sleep.

When I left yesterday 1/20, Delicious and Gabe were supposed to have a 10-ahead match for 10. I assume they would be playing 9-ball, but 10-ball would seem to make moreliterary sense: 10-ahead, 10-ball for 10 large. My scouts need to give me an update. Owens has played some mighty side matches. As of this writing, he has my vote for the St. Louis Louis Award. If only I had a vote.

Thanks for the update. Please keep us updated with the Delicious and Owen match up this should be interesting.

Action

Marcus Chamat matched up with Lil John for $10,000 I am pretty sure, you never always know for sure sometimes but the side action was probably at least 20,000 more. This spot was crazy and I would have taken Lil John

Marcus gave him the 6(wild) and the last 3. 10 ahead.
I left at about 3 in the morning and Lil John was fluctuating back and forth between 5 and 7 ahead. He would have gotten to 8 but he dogged an easy shot and Marcus won the next two games.
I came back down in the morning and the game just finished. Marcus got the match to his favor during the night and was 2 games up whereupon in about 45 minutes he took it to Lil John and survived the marathon to win the cash.
I guess they call him Lil Caesear for a reason.

Cliff Joyner is now playing Incardona one pocket $500 a game. They may have raised it by now, so many people watching cant get near the table.

Harry Platis playing some guy, dont know name but probably for big bucks, they have been playing for a few hours now.

I am sure there will be a lot more games, there were some rumors but I am leaving in morning so someone else will have to post.
will list last 8 in 9 ball in another post.

Friday night action

ok as of this post here is the latest downstairs:
Chris Bartram played Mika on a 7ft upstairs for $500/GAME. Chris won the first game and they played again with Mika the winner. The the APA kicked them off the table as they have a tourney upstairs this weekend.

Hennessee vs Shane Mcminn 9 ball 10 ahead for 5 large

Tony Chohan vs John Hagar Jr 10 ball not sure the amount

Cliff Joyner vs. Adam Smith 1 pocket not sure about the amount
The action room is locked shoulder to shoulder and hot as all get out.

Sparky and Hennessee were supposed to play but not sure of that rumor being true.

Rachel holding court on the first table all night first playing Dee Minor race to 9 giving Dee the 8 and last 2.....Rachel won hill hill
She is now playing a girl from Chicago not sure of her name but she has been around each year.

That is all for now....its late and we want to catch a couple matches tomorrow before the finals.
Nite

Thanks, Nfty9er and SweatinNbettin, for the fine action reports at the DCC. This is exactly the kind of stuff folks like to hear about back home.

I imagine since today is the last day of the DCC that last night was LAST CALL for action since they will be, most likely, tearing down the tables today.

Swede Marcus Chamat's nickname is "The Little Napoleon," as depicted in the photo below with his arms crossed. Make no mistake about it, Marcus is as deadly as a time bomb on a field of green, but insiders know he is as sweet as a honey bee, and when times get tough, he never forgets who his friends are.

My very adorable scout tells me that Lil John ended up on the short end. 15 large beans.

Fred

P.S. Action reports are great. Explicit dollar figures gets a wrist slap from Grady.

update

Hennesse won both sets he played . he beat sparky and Shane. Cliff beat adam. In the nine ball tourny, fransisco and and danny basavich went hill hill, fransisco scratched on the break, danny runs down to the 8, makes the 8 and scratches, nice shot. Marcus beat lil john after playing forever and Drew hagar beat tony chohan 10 ahead 10 ball

Oh

And im not sure of how you spell his name, but josh areah , the guy who got 3rd in the WSOP, is there playing thousand dollar nineball sets. He can actually play at an allright speed. Didnt like the guy from watching the world series, but hes actually pretty cool. . .. on the other hand, brian gregg should win an award for being the biggest idiot/nitt/puss/drunk at the derby this year.,

Please explain. I saw Brian drinking, but I did not see him acting like an idiot. I'm not saying he didn't, I just didn't see it. Could you give some examples of his actions?

well, in a brief summary, he came into the action room by the bar early this moring, started mouthin off about how hes ready to go off and lose all the money in his pocket playing a full rack of banks with anyone in the room. Andy from tulsa basicly calls him out, and brian tosses his weak lil bankroll on the ground saying hell bet 5000 and it looked like 1400. so he ends up not doing a damn thing, like everyone knew, i mean his nickname is supernit so its no suprise, but as hes leaving a guy that was staking troy frank offered to make a game with brian and only thing brian kept saying was full rack of bank, and since the guy didnt want troy to play brian called him a scared "bitch" 4 times, and keep in mind, this guy is like, maybe 5 foot 5. . so finally the guy sais something back, and brian then sais "we can put up the 5 thousand and step outside" this guy couldnt get out of his seat any faster than he did, and as soon as he did, and about half the room wanting side actoin on the lil guy, guess who grabbed his cue case and walked off with is tail between his legs. . Brian gregg is a joke.
