I was at the Viking Tour $25k guaranteed tourney this past week and saw some of the best pool I have ever seen, both in the tourney and the back room. If anyone hasnt seen Shane Van Boeing play yet.....you are really missing out! This kid is 23 years old and has the game and composure of anyone. I watched him give Tony Watson the 8 on a triple shimmed diamond for $500 a rack and Shane played unbelieveable. After that, he gave Troy Frank the same game and pretty much tortured Troy. Then, he took the 8 from Corey and lost, but it was a dog fight. It was also fun hanging out with some of the players at Wild Bill's. Also, I want to say that I got to talk to "Mr.400" John Schmidt (although we have met before) and despite some of the remarks that I have posted on here in the past based on circumstantial situations, he is really a stand-up guy. Good luck with your room in Fla. John. I would love to come play there when you get it up and going.

Wait until you see Shane play 8 ball on a barbox! He really put on a show playing Scott Frost at the open. I would've loved to have watched the match between he & Corey!

Can I call you a JS groupie now?!?!?! :D

I wish I wasn't so slammed with work so that I could have been there every night. I saw part of the Stevie vs Mark 1pocket match on Wedensday. Which was great to watch.

I came Sunday but came in sort of late.

Shane gave Troy Frank the 8!!!

Giving Tony was strong but giving Troy the 8 is really strong.

It seems odd that he can give Troy the 8 but didnt get there getting
the 8 from Corey.

Granted at that level the 8 isnt really a terrible amount of weight but still.

I wonder if Shane was shaken a bit playing Corey.

nope

they were playin for 3k and i think that might have been the problem! cory is a much BIGGER name! to bad there wasnt a bar table there! would of loved to see cory play the kid in some bar table 8 ball for some BIGGER money! i think shane will do a lil bit better next time!hats off to cory he is an animal!won of the best for the cash! period!

Shane is a bad dude for sure!

Cory is purdy bada$$ himself tho too, eh:eek:

Shane's break, or lack thereof, killed him playing Corey. I wouldn't say that is the only reason why he lost though. There is a reason why alot of people think Corey is the strongest 9-ball player in the world. He is brutal...especially playing rack-your-own. He just doesn't have alot of weaknesses and Shane was not in the form he was in while playing Troy.

I enjoyed watching the match regardless. Some really good shotmaking, and excellent safety play. That table length jump on the two by Shane was pretty incredible.

How did Ike runnels do playing one pocket?
I think Cliff got the better of him, although I'm not sure. Not even sure how they were playing, although I know that Cliff had won the last game when Ike unscrewed.

Thats what i thinking. Maybe he was mentally tired. You know giving those guys the 8 ain't no picnic. :)

Just to clarify. They were giving the called 8 I presume and not wild?

Nope...it was the wild 8. and I think Cliff was giving Ike 9 to 6...not sure about that tho.

Thanks for the clarification. Even our own Stephen Brown was only getting the call 8 from a fairly strong player not too long ago at Hawley's, but ended up pulling it out really strong and came out ahead by a few bucks :D

Wish I could have been there to see it!

Cliff vs. Corey

Last night, Cliff was giving Corey 9-6 playing 1-hole. I think they were playing 5 ahead for a few bucks. With the spot, Corey had to shoot EVERY SHOT with a bridge. It was exciting to watch. Man, both of them made some great shots. Cliff got ahead by winning 3 games in a row. However, Corey was able to pull back to even and eventually won the set.

You don't hear about Troy getting tortured very often. Getting tortured getting the 8 maybe never. I consider him in the top 20 of American players. Always considered him somewhat more of a tournament player.

I think top 20 is too high. Maybe when he busted on the scene he was top 20. Probably not even then.

There's lots of guys that wouldn't mind playing Troy even, that aren't well known. Lots of consistent regional tourney winners I think can take Troy.

Reason why you don't hear of him getting tortured is because he spent a lot of time on the road, and is supposed to be smarter than getting in a bad game.

You see it a lot, a formerly unknown player snaps off a tourney, plays well for a few years, and begins to think no one under Efren can spot him.

As an example, I probably think there are a few international players right now who can spot Bustamente the 8. And Troy is by no means even in the same class as Bustamente now, let alone 5 years ago.

I really think to be considered in the top 20, you have to be capable of snapping off 2 or more strong international fields in a year, and sorry, but Troy is not at that level.

Just curious, which players?
