Add length to a shaft?

Hi all,

May be a silly question, but is there any way to add an inch to an existing shaft?

If so, how would this affect the hit/playability of the shaft?

Sure it can be done! It may look and play like hammered shit but it can be done. ;). Just how much are you looking to add?

Look at mezz shafts and see how they do it. I hear these play well.

Jesus, I can't believe anybody actually buys into the lies that Mezz sells.

That brochure claims that the shaft stores more energy that is then transferred into the break...which is not the case and anybody who passed highschool physics should know that.

I effing hate Mezz.

Batteries maybe? Lol, I'm assuming they are referring to a better transfer of energy (looks like these shafts have more mass, but could be wrong).

There's also potential energy, but I won't pretend to know what I'm talking about here. The OP asked if you could add material to lengthen a shaft, and i think the question has been answered. Just curious to hear from Ferelz about why Mezz makes a bad product.

I'm always open to learn about the physics behind how this stuff works, and hopefully more knowledgeable people can chime in. That's how science works, you have to provide evidence to support a claim, you can't simply say "No, this answer is wrong because I don't like it..."

Joey, you've had some interesting opinions on deflection and such. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I don't know if Mezz makes a bad product or not, but the way they outright lie in their advertising leaves an acrid taste in my mouth.
 
Just install a 2" ferrule.

I ordered a cue years back with a 30" shaft. The maker says he doesnt have any longer blanks made up, so. I tell him no problem, Ill wait. Cue shows up in less than a week, Im suprised to see the box when I get home. Open it up....... Not quite a 2" ferrule. Laughed it off, took it out to play. Hit like you would imagine a 2" ferrule to hit. Got it home and started cutting slices off with a hacksaw. Got down to about 3/4" before I hit a tenon. Went ahead and faced it and put a tip on it. Played fine from there...... Lol
As funny as the makers answer might have been, I never even bothered to ask.

The easy solution is a one inch butt extension or a one inch joint extension.
