advantages of heavy cues

SUPERSTAR:
Heavier cue swings straighter.
I believe this, but not because the slight added resistance actually directly reduces stroke error. I think it's just more feedback that helps us learn more quickly what a straight stroke feels like.

I am a BCA certified instructor and have taught pool for 40 years and have studied stroke for as long and have reached this conclusion. The stroke is a throw of the cue from the elbow down like a hammer blow and with a light cue it becomes a hit with your hand, which is not as accurate. I can play with a heavier cue, but lose accuracy with a light cue.

Heavy cue

Actually, I have no idea what weight is best or for what reason except as common sense applies. But I can tell you why I prefer and play with a 19oz or as close to that weight as possible. In 1963 I went to a straight pool exhibition featuring Willie Mosconi and a local pro player. After being mesmerized watching Willie run 100 plus balls I had an opportunity to ask him some questions. One being what weight cue he preferred. His answer was a 19oz and for better or worse that was good enough for me!

what are the advantages of a heavy cue

i know many champions who have played 21 oz and more

i just bought a 21oz cue from bob farr

the reason i like them is i can hit hard shots without swing as hard

please list advantages and your names if you have played or are now playing a cue over 20 oz

My view on this is a little different than most probably. To me, if a cue feels "heavy" or "light" than it isn't good for me. It should feel comfortable, natural.

+1 on this. i have played with everything from and 18.5 joss to my current player, a dick neighbors custom. the joss was a well made and beautiful cue but it never felt good to me. my custom was ordered to be 20.5 but it came out to be 21.5 (a purpleheart handle had to be used when the original maple one was damaged).
dick made the cue to have the balance point i wanted and all of the measurements i wanted. he told me he could remove some weight but it would change the balance point (there's no bolt, so he would have to remove some wood). i told him to send it to me and let me try it. the cue just felt right from the first shot i took. i never had him change a thing.
i think too much gets made over the semantics. if the cue feels right, it's right.

Money players like heavy Cues?

Some yes and some no. The best player I ever saw used 21 and a little and it wasn't a little. Reyes also plays way north of 21 ozs.
Advantages?
Shorter slower stroke. because mass X velocity sqaured means nothing when it comes to consistancy and pure straight aiming.
Slower Cueball speed means more spinn with less effort.
This allows for shots not possable with a lighter Cue.
The great eqaulizers are fast cloth and soft layered tips. These allow for a lesser advantage with the heavier equipment.
The big deal is especially with a Scruggs or Cochran is they feel 2 ozs. lighter than they really are when you lay down to stroke!
Light Cues have less squirt especially with soft layered tipsand thin shafts.
The new equipment allows for position play that was impossable on the old cloth. It has taken most of the skill out of the game. And with that the light Cues are not a disability.
There are advantages for both. I wish everyone went back to the old cloth. You would see world champs crying about they can't run 100 like they used to. Probably break the ferrules on their light Cues trying to follow the ball.
They would even have to change how they address their shots. This fast cloth is like playing from the lady's tees.
