Advice for Choosing Cases

I still don't think YOU would be happy with one. Best of luck whatever you choose !!! LOL

Well, I'm not the one shopping....lol

I'm perfectly happy with my very old and beat up Instroke.

If I were shopping I'd take a serious look at the links I gave on page one (post # 11) PLUS those GD cases.
They look unbelievably nice. Serious stuff right there.

I try - within reason of course - to only buy made in America and since JB is made in China I will pass on those all day long.

My JB Ultimate Rugged 2X5/3X4 with the lid ball holder is fantastic. My one complaint is that the pockets are not as big as other brands. I've finally added a jump cue and with the handle and extension I'm out of storage space. Q Claw, small towel, chalker, boxes of Masters and Magic chalk, tip tool, contact lenses, eye drops, shaft slicker, burnishing leather, bridge head, hole reinforcers. More than most carry, perhaps, but my past cheapy case had ample room for these.
You can order the pockets to be as large as you want.

This is of course not something you know for a fact unless you have tried all cue cases out there.
Just because you're happy with yours doesn't make it the "best case for protection and durability".
I can say for a fact that based on my research the jb case provides the best protection in the type of cases we make. This is from my having dissected just about every case out there.

GD cases are not made in the USA. Your instroke was not made in the USA or Germany either.

You got me there. There are probably a few others who mistakenly worded there opinion about these cases also. I still don't think YOU would be happy with one. Best of luck whatever you choose !!! LOL
No you are correct, JB cases are the best for protection and durability. In fact I bet on it by offering a lifetime warranty on each one.

Thank you everyone for all the great support.

I've run through about 6-7 cases in 8 years, I've changed from one to the next for
various reasons. I'm curious what others have to say about their choice of case and
what they look for when purchasing.

Carrying:
Lambros cue with second shaft and extension
Cuetek Jump cue with handle
Bk2 Break cue with shaft
Cue ball, chalk, other random crap

I started with cheaper hard vinyl cases just to hold cues and quickly came to dislike
some of the cheaper models for durability issues. I went through about 3-4 of
those of various sizes. The vinyl straps would just give way after awhile.

I went to the extreme and went for an Instroke 3x5 which I like, but it's so damn
heavy it started giving me back trouble. Durable as can be but the weight of the
case just made it difficult.

So I switched to the Lucasi soft case 4 x 8, nice weight but couldn't accommodate a
jump handle very well and when the handle strap broke, I got it repaired but wanted
something a little more rugged. got the handle fixed, but needed to move on.

Next went with the Predator Soft case Yellow 3x4, loved this one. perfect size and
pockets held had enough room. I liked this one so much, when the strap broke I got
it repaired twice already. Only dissatisfying part was the quality of where the strap
meets the bag, really terrible design flaw in my opinion.

Not sure what to move to next, I've heard the Black version of the same case doesn't
have the same issues, but Idk if that's just wishful thinking from owners of the black version.

Back with the Lucasi for now.

any suggestions on other cases?

Tell us your needs and we will build you a case that satisfies those desires. We have done way too many custom builds to list here. The bottom line is that we rarely say no to customer's requests. May take a little while to fulfill them but when done we usually get real close to what you want.

I have an Instroke case from the first year they came out and I still use it daily.
No problems with zippers, latches, the leather, or anything whatsoever.
Highly recommend them.
I don't know much about the made in China JB cases but I hear good things.
For me I don't see the point.
I would love to support 100% American made in my next case and that rules out JB.
Glad to hear the instroke is holding up so well. I tried to build them as solidly as possible. For 100% made on us soil by 100% legal residents/citizens you might need to do some serious research to satisfy those requirements.

I can only state that purchasing a in case supports Jessie Barton and Katrina Barton, 8 and 4 respectively, and John Barton... And Matthew, Emmy and Skylynn Alston, 6 Americans. Along with Karen Barton, her mom, her dad, and 15 other families in China.

We all work extremely hard to keep building top quality... And by this I mean TOUGH and DURABLE cases that are highly protective.... without getting hung up on what patch of Earth the work is done on.

I started in JB Cases in my living room in 2007 and Karen's mom was my first sewer... working for free... experimenting with me to help me create the cases I always wanted to build. We have gone through a lot since then to build them company we have and the reputation we have achieved. All I know is that I am positive that no matter where our cases are made they would be made to my standards which are unreasonably high.

I think that anyone who denies themselves a JB custom case based on where it is made is simply denying themselves the best protection and durability and custom choice that exists in pool cue cases.

I started with a cheap 2x2 vinyl case that basically did its job. Then won a "Bentley" 2x4 leather case that was reasonably nice and also held up for a little while. Finally bought a very nice Whitten 3x5 I believe. Loved it, but damn was it heavy. A beautiful piece of work though. However, I had problems with 2 of the zippers, and Whitten wasn't especially helpful. At the Expo, I showed my case to John Barton, and he spent like 45 minutes with me showing me how to rethread a zipper, and even gave me a little nylon bag out of his personal luggage to use so the stuff didn't fall out of my pockets. He didn't once mention anything about his cases or try to sell me anything. That really made an impression on me, so I promptly purchased a JB Ultra Rugged case 4x8. I love it. It has held up great with no problems. I will say there honestly probably isn't enough space in there when the case is full, and the butts rub pretty hard against each other trying to take them in and out. I keep only 3 butts in there. I really just don't think 4 would fit with all the shafts in. That said however, the case is awesome, a fantastic value, reasonably light weight, and the customer service has been exceptional.

I would *strongly* recommend the JB Rugged line of cases. If I could go back and do it again, I would custom order one with my specific color choices, my name stitched on it, and one or two other little tweaks. You will pay more and wait a bit, but the cases are nice enough that you could easily make it your last case purchase...might as well get exactly what you want.

Here is a little video I just did explaining that we have been engineering for players since 1991 and especially since 2007.

Shown in the video is my personal case. I apologize that I have not done a good enough job of advertising all the custom work we have done and can do.

I'm more than happy to.

Far as I'm concerned it's time well spent.

I love supporting as much American made as much as I reasonably can.

And something as important as this - whenever next time I buy - I'm more than happy to spend the time. Even if it takes a few days.

Well, I never said I was buying a GD case.

BUT what I did say is that from the time I got the original Instroke until now a lot of things have changed.

Both with me and in geopolitics, but mostly it's me wanting to support as much "local" labor as possible.

I love doing my share of possibly lowering the unemployment rate and get people working.

Show you some of our butterflies later.

Next case I get will be a good quality 4x8 butterfly.
No question about it.
I'm one of those guys who takes a LOT of stuff with me.
For one thing I love testing different cues, I have a lot of top cues, plus endless of other things.
So the larger the pockets the better. I also like your pocket dividers.
It'll save me from using all that Tupperware to keep the pockets organized...lol

Thanks for your posts.

I'll add what must be the 64th vote for a JB Rugged. You really can't beat them in functionality and the quality and protection they provide is untouched at this price.

Best case I've ever owned is my Chuck Fields that has a JB interior. Second best, and what I use when I need bigger pockets, is my JB Rugged.

My favorite is the 2x5 size which I use just as a 2x4. Here is what I carry in mine.

You might want to pm me with how you are placing the cues. It's possible that I could show you a better way so that 4*8 will fit.
