Advice on GC 1,2,3,?? buying. and makeover

Hi Folk's, I am trying to buy a gc right now. I have been told about a table that i have not seen yet. They say its a GC1. It has new K66 rubber on it. I am kind of nervous about the new rubber. I thought that the rubber on the old GC's would out-last most humans. I want the GC to practice banking. I understand that the old brunswick super speed rubber at a 96% pure angle rebound rate. I wonder about what the K66 rubber is like. Maybe this is not something I even need to be concerned about??. The table is presently dismantled. I also would like to know how to tell the difference between the gc models of 1,2,3,. They also tell me there are a few scratches on the slate. Should I be concerned about this??
I guess I am asking you guys what i need to look at when buying this table. It's selling for approx. 2 thou. Appreciate all the help. I am on my 3 table. I just want to get the right one in the basement and ENJOY IT. I also hope to change all the skirts to real cherry wood if it is possible. I also can use cherry laminate on the legs etc. What do you think.
I can also use oak as well. I have lot's of both.

If it has k-66 cushions on it, RUN! They do not belong on there and to make them fit the rails may have been modified.
 
What name brand of rubber is it? If it is Artemis, it maybe Intercontinental K-66. This is K-55 profile and you would be ok. If the table rails have not been modified, then you would just have to change it back to k-55 profile. If the rails have been modified, then you probably will have more problems. Most people do not know how to properly convert one and it should have never been done to begin with.

I'm not answering on this one, as there is plenty of info on the differences between the GC 1,2, and 3's here in this section to answer fatspool's questions, all he has to do is some research into it. As far as K66 goes, find out first to make sure, while you're at it, find out who installed it. Then, last but not least, $2,000.00 is way over priced for a GC1.

By the way, what exactly does that statement mean, and where did you hear that from? I've been playing pool longer than I've been working on pool tables...and that's a very long time....and I have no idea as to what you're talking about,...do you?

Probably some Brunswick sales crap I would imagine. I didn't even see him saying the table was 2K, too much for around these parts.

I have gotten the rubber up to 98.7% on my GC4, but you have to keep an eye on it, as if it goes higher than that it doesn't feel as "pure" to me. Humidity plays an important role in this too, I am just not sure how or to what extent.;)

Please explain what you mean by 98.7%, as I'm lost as to what you're trying to say. What do you mean, and how do you come to that conclusion?

It's time for an upgrade, the Championship Tour Edition is "100% accurate under all given speeds" and the Superspeed is 40% more consistent than the competitors cushions, so unless you're getting 140% accuracy there must be some installation problem. :D

I am getting 140% from the table, but my stroke is -41.3%, but it works as long as I'm not drinkin' too much.:D

Ok , maybe i will stick to bowling where there are no rubber rails!! . Thanks for the advice, 2k is a lot for this table. I know where I can get a GC3 for ~ 2K. Do you guy's think that is a fair price?? It is black, I don't know how old it is. THX.
 
I am picking up a GC IV for $1500. $2000 wouldnt be a bad price for a pristine GC III. Keep your eye out, the good deals will come!

PS22 - where did you find a GC IV for $1500? You stole it at that price unless it was beat up! Nice find! Glad you found this one instead of some of the others you've mentioned on here....

just look around, you'll find one cheap...

I took my time and found a 'GC 3' for $1,500. It was NOT in great shape, alot of scratches,dings,dents in the wood skirts. Felt had stains and snags and of course the corner/side castings were all thrashed.

The only real concern I had was that the slate was in good condition, (no bad cracks) the seller told me the slate was in decent condition, so I bought it...

With a little time and money you can get these tables looking real nice again. I had the skirts refinshed, the castings copper plated, new rubber and felt with some new balls and slapped on some decals. I love this table now...
