ahead sets or races?

So I played this guy 50$ sets from 1:30 to 9:15 and we broke even. The thing is every set he won it was close and the sets I won were blowouts. Should I play him in an ahead set in the future? I usually play sets but I feel since I can out run him more than he can out run me, I should gamble ahead sets with him.

What do you guys think?

You could always just play by the game, my choice almost all the time. I rarely play sets. If you are the better player you will pretty much win every time if the session last any amount of time. You can also stall a bit and milk the guy having him chasing his money. When you play sets there is always a final finish point where the player has a chance to quit because it has ended. Playing by the game he has to make the decision of should he quit of not. They always want to play just a few more games as they chase after their money and go off for a lot more then they expected.

If you are both locals, and enjoy playing, keep playing sets. If you (or him) is a roadie and it's all about the cash, play him the ahead set.

If he's a local and you play him an ahead set for any real cash, you've probably just killed your action with him, and maybe others.

they are not really friendly sets. We are both trying to win the others money for sure. He is one of the only ones around that will play me anyways. He is supposedly better than me but that didnt show tonight.

I like Mac Guy's answer. I will play him by the game next time.

I think you got is a tad wrong there, no?
Can't string anybody along and win any real $ by the game (ahead set). You can do it better by the set.

I prefer to play by the game, so the girl who beats me actually has to outplay me to win. That said though, pool is recreation for me and I have no issue breaking even.

I prefer races for tournaments though!:grin-devilish::rotflmao1:

I almost always played by the game...pay after each game. If playing for $20 + a game had to put money on table, light or wear ever before each game. I never got air barreled in my life of over 50 years of gambling and 1000's of games. Johnnyt

You are the one who has it wrong!

Or, you could just put the first bet on the light and pay off every game after, you can't get air barreled this way and you are not having to put the money on the light every time.

Never thought of that. Too late now...playing days are over. Johnnyt
