Since threads proposing sub-forums are in these days, here's mine.

How about a sub-forum called, "Aiming". There are a ton of aiming threads on here, and they're all extremely long, and they all end up in flame wars. Why not put them all in one place?

Yes let's put the rivit counters in thier own forum so those of us that are really interested in talking about pool don't have to sort through all the junk mail threads of "mystical" aiming threads that seem to have a "cult" following.

Take your BHE and Fractionalize it!!!!!!!!

tap tap.......;)

It does get a little old seeing new ones all the time but i don't think we need a whole forum dedicated to them. JMO

wow, seems like aiming themes in main forum are like the raffles in the w/fs section :)

put all threads, i don't want to read in a sub-forum :grin-square:

I cannot improve on this. Nicely put!

that is such a good idea. aiming systems are such a crock of shiite (muslum that is). let the people that are into them just stay in that group. anyway, great idea!

i still challenge all the aiming system proponents to put up a tough cut shot where the ob has to go length of the table.... cb close to the object ball so shooting strait shouldnt be a problem.... why cant you make it every time, 100 out of 100??? because aiming isn't that simple is the answer, aiming will change with the speed of the shot and stroke used.

Wow. You guys are brutal. I like the idea of a subforum for aiming and suggested it last month if only to keep them all organized and available rather than letting them disappear into oblivion. I got beaten up for the suggestion as well.

Whether or not there's a subforum, I don't know why anyone would be against aiming systems. They probably use them and don't realize it. What about ghost ball? What about double-the-distance? What about double overlap? They are old standards that tons of people use, and they are systems. Do you see a contact point? Then you're using a system. If you can honestly get up to a shot, look at the pocket, look at the object ball without drawing any lines in your mind whatsoever and pocket the shot, then I'd agree that you aren't using a system. Any more than that and you've internalized a system. It may be as yet undiscussed or unwritten, but it's a step by step procedure which is a system.

System--A procedure or process for obtaining an objective.

Making a sub-forum for the aiming threads will subject them to a slow death!!

Is that what you really want? I don't think so.

Should the main forum be reserved for questions about tip height, and tip hardness, and how to shoot a short straight in shot, and what does getting the 8 ball mean, and so on? Not IMHO.

Keep the aiming threads here in the Main Forum. If they are relegated to a sub-forum many won't even see them. Don't like them? Don't read them!

Cheers,

Flex

I don't care about a sub-forum either because if the thread isn't something I want to read then I won't open it. So either way sub-forum or not doesn't matter!

If a Sub Forum was made for Aiming, I know I was never go in it.

That's a good point, but when I'm reading one and find myself disliking it, I do stop reading. You could say that about the contents of any sub-forum though.

Part of the point of a sub-forum is to make the threads easier to find for those that do want to read them. I would presume that both the yes's and no's are made up of both groups of people, those that like to read aiming threads and those that don't.

I'm glad there is a straight pool sub-forum, for example, and I do like reading threads about that game. Having a sub-forum for it helps me to find a bunch of threads about the game that I haven't read yet.

The last line in your post should read;
System--A procedure or process for forum flaming, by all the number cruncher's who can't seem to agree on ANYTHING ! :sorry:
Puleeeze, ship them all off to "sub-forum land" where they can debate their engineering principles and BHE ( Boring, Hardly Enjoyable) into perpetuity.

Dr. Dick (aiming by eyeball expert, lessons NOT free)
PS No small wonder they HAVE to give their "infallable" systems away !

A fast, merciful death would be MUCH better.

I actually voted for a sub-forum, because why not. If you wanna go there you can - just like straight pool.

However, how can one be against aiming threads in the main forum when no one *****es about total crap like Travis Trotter threads in the main forum - all of which are NPR, let alone PR (such as aiming)?

If ya make a sub-forum, do it for the right reasons... not because you can't hack reading them. Otherwise, there'd be nothing in the main forum at all after everyone submitting their complaints on "unhackable" subjects.

Webster's, cult n. formal religious veneration, ritualistic sect. usually at odds with the norm of accepted society.

Yep, you described them perfectly Greenman

This is the first explanation of aiming systems that I've been able to understand!

Seriously though, I don't use a "system" for aiming at all and I ran 61 balls in practice last night. And I didn't even miss to end my run; I scratched on the 61st ball. I wonder if an aiming system would have kept me from scratching?
