More and more fellow az'ers are telling stories of cues being damaged while being shipped. The best suggestion that was made was using pvc pipe. Trying to come up with a cheap bullet proof container. But there are some mysterious damages.
Example, I was told this by a fellow az'er that a prominent cue maker air freighted 2 cues to NY. Both cues were cracked behind the pins on arrival.
I have received sealed steel containers that have been air freighted to me and the container was sucked in like an empty gas can on a cool night.
drilling some holes in the pvc pipe will stop this vacuum with its crushing force.
At the same time many of us use air travel monthly, if not weekly, having bottles of shampoo break in our bags.
But the finish on pool cues is an air and water proof membrain covering almost all of the butt of pool cue.
with only the joint and butt of the cue to breath out of.
this hasnt happened to me yet.
So here is the question over a long periods of air travel at 35.000 ft or what the normal altitude is on a jet airliner.
Is it possible that cues can be damaged just
by rapid decompression, plus extreem temperature rise.
And is there anything that can be done to protect our pool cues?
This thread is about trying to understand the laws of physics not shifting blame of any damaged cue to / or on anyone.
I think there are times that our cues are popping, warping splitting because of unknown pressures and rapid temperature changes.
Any info on rapid compression and decompression, presures and a temperatures changes that take place on a air liner could be helpful
